Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for UMTS HSDPA Shared Control Channel processing may include calculating at a receiver, for each one of a plurality of control channels, a quality metric derived from at least one Viterbi Decoder state metric. A control channel may be selected on the basis of the quality metrics, where the quality metric is selected that provides maximum confidence. The selected control channel may be chosen if its corresponding 3GPP metric is greater than a specified threshold, where the threshold is a design parameter. A validity of a selected control channel may be determined based on consistency and a CRC, where the CRC may be derived from decoding a sub-frame. The calculating and selecting may be done for a first slot of a sub-frame for High-Speed Shared Control Channels.

  • Publication number: 20130195163
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for enhancing the audio quality of an FM receiver. In embodiments described herein, quadrature L?R demodulation is applied to a composite baseband signal output by an FM demodulator to obtain an L?R noise signal. A channel quality measure is calculated based on the L?R noise signal and is used to control whether a pop suppression technique is applied to an L+R signal obtained from the composite baseband signal to detect and remove noise pulses therefrom. The channel quality measure and the L?R noise signal are also leveraged to perform single-channel noise suppression in the frequency domain on an L?R signal obtained from the composite baseband signal and on the L+R signal. The channel quality measure is also used to control the application of a fast fading compensation process that replaces noisy segments of the L?R and L+R signal with replacement waveforms generated via waveform extrapolation.

Abstract: An artificial magnetic minor (AMM) cell includes a conductive element and an impedance element. The conductive element forms a lumped resistor-inductor-capacitor (RLC) circuit. The impedance element is coupled to the conductive element. The impedance of the impedance element and the impedance of the RLC circuit establish an electromagnetic property for the AMM cell within a given frequency range that contributes to the AMC. The AMM cell along with other AMM cells collectively produce an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) having a geometric shape for an electromagnetic signal in the given frequency range.

  • Patent number: 8498291
Abstract: Switching between communication ports of a notebook is typically accomplished using an off-chip local area network (LAN) switch or an off-chip high speed analog multiplexer. This off-chip component is disadvantageous for several reasons, including: added cost of an additional component; increased overall power consumption because transmit amplitude loss; and reduced cable reach and link performance due to hybrid mismatch and signal distortions. To reduce cost and preserve electrical and networking performance, an integrated switch is provided to multiplex signals of a networking communication chip to multiple network paths.

Abstract: A turbo decoder is configured to perform iterative decoding of data bits of a data packet received via a source signal to converge on a “soft” decision representation for each data bit of the data packet. The turbo decoder includes both an interleaved decoder and a non-interleaved decoder that work collaboratively to refine and improve the “soft” decision of each of the originally-received data bits. The interleaved decoder and the non-interleaved decoder are injected with extrinsic information based on at least a-priori information of the source signal. The turbo decoder avoids positive feedback of the a-priori information regarding the source signal from one decoder to the other by subtracting out extrinsic information based on the a-priori information that is injected into a decoder from the “soft” decision(s) determined by the decoder.
