  • Publication number: 20130166236
Abstract: Systems and methods of measuring current in a power over Ethernet (PoE) system are provided. The PoE system includes an integrated circuit component having a controller, an internal transistor, a replica transistor, and an external transistor. Current in the system can be indirectly measured by enabling and disabling the transistors in known ways and then measuring the current through the replica transistor. The actual current in the system can be calculated based on the measured currents, thereby allowing for a PoE system that is capable of measuring current without a resistor in series with the external transistor.

  • Patent number: 8472506
Abstract: Channel state information in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) pre-coding system is quantized onto a codebook, which comprises one or more unitary matrices, using a cost function. Voronoi regions are computed from the codebook. The codebook may be updated based on the computed Voronoi regions. The channel state information may comprise a matrix V. The cost function f(A) is defined by the following relationship: f ? ( A ) = ( 1 N ? ? j = 1 N ? ? a jj ? 2 ) where A is a matrix of size N by N and aij is element (i,j) of matrix A. Voronoi regions may be generated from the codebook for the unitary matrices. A set of matrices based on the Voronoi regions and the unitary matrices may be generated. Updating the codebook may be achieved by modifying the set of matrices into a new set of unitary matrices, where the new set of unitary matrices become the codebook.

  • Patent number: 8472899
Abstract: Aspects of a system for improving efficiency over power control for linear and class AB power amplifiers may include a current source circuit that enables determination of a bias current level for a PA circuit within an IC die based on an amplitude of an input modulation signal. The PA circuit may enable generation of an output signal based on a differential input signal and the input modulation signal to the current source circuit. A generated bias voltage may be applied to a transformer external to the IC die, but internal to an IC package containing the IC die and/or a circuit board containing the IC package. One or more amplifier bias voltage levels may be applied to the PA circuit wherein the amplifier bias voltage levels may be derived from the generated bias voltage level and/or the determined bias current level.

  • Patent number: 8472905
Abstract: A method for wireless communication includes adding a received DVB-H signal with a reference oscillator signal to generate an added DVB-H signal. The reference oscillator signal may be added at an input of a matching load. The matching load may be used to tune a wireless antenna that receives the received DVB-H signal based on a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) associated with the added DVB-H signal. The reference oscillator signal may be generated, and the generated reference oscillator signal may be amplified. The added DVB-H signal may be amplified subsequent to the adding. The RSSI associated with the added DVB-H signal may be determined. The tuning may occur during receiving of a preamble of a packet for the received DVB-H signal.

  • Patent number: 8472523
Abstract: A system and/or method for detecting white noise in a sequence of video frames, and a computer program product is described to affect the quantization step size. In the method/system the correlation between motion vectors of macroblocks is calculated and compared to a predefined threshold. The correlation between motion vectors is used as an indicator for noise in the frames. The quantization step size is then adapted according to the detected level of noise.

  • Patent number: 8471611
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a fractional-N digital phase locked loop (DPLL) that replaces the conventionally used time-to-digital converter (TDC) based phase detector with a bang-bang phase detector (BBPD). Compared to the TDC based phase detector, the BBPD has an often superior resolution for the same or similar amount of power and/or area consumption. Therefore, replacing the TDC based phase detector with a BBPD can reduce, or even eliminate, the common problem of spurs being added to the output signal generated by the DPLL because of the limited resolution of the TDC based phase detector. This can allow the DPLL to be used for the most demanding applications, such as in generating local oscillator signals for down-converting and demodulating weak signals received by a communication device, such as a cellular phone.

  • Patent number: 8473822
Abstract: True bit level decoding of TTCM (Turbo Trellis Coded Modulation) of variable rates and signal constellations. A decoding approach is presented that allows for decoding on a bit level basis that allows for discrimination of the individual bits of a symbol. Whereas prior art approaches typically perform decoding on a symbol level basis, this decoding approach allows for an improved approach in which the hard decisions/best estimates may be made individually for each of the individual bits of an information symbol. In addition, the decoding approach allows for a reduction in the total number of calculations that need to be performed as well as the total number of values that need to be stored during the iterative decoding. The bit level decoding approach is also able to decode a signal whose code rate and/or signal constellation type (and mapping) may vary on a symbol by symbol basis.

  • Patent number: 8472617
Abstract: System and method for processing communication signals in a communication system having a detector for detecting a parameter of a communication signal. A communication signal is provided to a non-linear processor (NLP) adapted to examine the signal and to decide whether or not to enter an active state based upon a parameter of the signal. If the NLP enters an active state, the NLP performs non-linear processing on the signal. The NLP communicates to the detector whether the NLP is active or inactive. If the NLP is active, a processing step of the detector is disabled.

  • Patent number: 8472543
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for predicting CQI values for ML detection in a 2×2 MIMO system are presented. In one aspect of the system, a CQI value for a MIMO communication system may be computed based on a computed channel realization by reverse mapping the computed channel realization to a corresponding CQI value. Based on the computed CQI value, a coding rate may be selected. The coding rate may be selected from a lookup table, wherein the computed CQI value is utilized as an index to the lookup table. The reverse mapping may utilize a function, which is computed using radial basis function networks. In another aspect of the system, a joint mutual information value may be computed for the MIMO communication system. The joint mutual information value may be computed based on a Shannon mutual information value and a matched filter mutual information value.

  • Patent number: 8473829
Abstract: Address generation for contention-free memory mappings of turbo codes with ARP (almost regular permutation) interleaves. Anticipatory address generation is employed using an index function , that is based on an address mapping , which corresponds to an interleave inverse order of decoding processing (??1). In accordance with parallel turbo decoding processing, instead of performing the natural order phase decoding processing by accessing data elements from memory bank locations sequentially, the accessing of addresses is performed based on the index function , that is based on an mapping and the interleave (?) employed within the turbo coding. In other words, the accessing data elements from memory bank locations is not sequential for natural order phase decoding processing. The index function also allows for the interleave (?) order phase decoding processing to be performed by accessing data elements from memory bank locations sequentially.

  • Patent number: 8472571
Abstract: Direct detection of wireless interferers in a communication device for multiple modulation types. One or more radios implemented within a communication device is/are operative to receive and process wireless communications. A wireless communication signal is processed to extract symbols there from. Various symbols groups are processed in accordance with correlation processing to identify potential interferers (e.g., other communication devices using common portions of frequency spectra). Alternatively, matched filter processing (e.g., using a Barker matched filter in some embodiments) operates on the various symbol groups to identify some potential interferers. Various combinations of correlation processing and matched filter processing may be employed in other instances (e.g., using any of a desired means of comparison, combining, etc.) in considering interferers identified in accordance with each of these two means.
