Patent number: 9544638Abstract: In conventional packet communications systems, such as MPEG-2, the data stream includes a program clock reference (PCR) so that the receiver decoder can lock on to the data stream. The invention eliminates the need to send the PCR by transferring a data transport rate explicitly in the header of the data packets so that the decoder can use the transport rate as a locking reference and adjust its phase lock loop. The transport rate is carried in the adaptation field as user private data.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Jiang Fu, Zhijie Yang, Brian A. Patent number: 9544665Abstract: An device and method for providing multiple adaptive bit rate (ABR) streams using a single transcoder is disclosed. The device receives a group of content segments for a media channel, and converts, using a transcoder, a first of the content segments from a source format to a first data format, a first time duration for converting the first content segment being less than a second time duration for receiving each group of segments. The converted segment is then sent to a client device. On receiving a request from the device for content segments in a second data format, the device performs an initialization of the transcoder to convert content segments from the source format to the second data format, the initialization being completed during a residual period of time, or “operational gap” produced by a difference between the first time duration and the second time duration.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2013Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Rajesh Shankarrao Mamidwar, Wade Keith Wan, Hongtao Zhu

Patent number: 9543645Abstract: A transmitter front-end for wireless chip-to-chip communication, and for other, longer-range (e.g., several meters or several tens of meters) device-to-device communication is disclosed. The transmitter front-end can include a plurality of reflector power amplifiers implemented on an IC chip and an on-chip or on-package antenna for wireless transmitting a signal to another IC chip or device. The plurality of reflector power amplifiers can reflect the radiation of the on-chip or on-package antenna in a particular pattern such that the effective radiation pattern is reinforced in a desired direction and suppressed in an undesired direction. This helps to reduce the required output power of the transmitter front-end and mitigate interference with other potential wireless chip-to-chip or longer-range communications.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2015Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Farid Shirinfar, Maryam Rofougaran, Ahmadreza Rofougaran

Patent number: 9544083Abstract: Methods and systems for removing interference from strongly powered SSS sequences in a received signal so that comparatively weakly powered SSS sequences in the received signal can be detected are disclosed. The methods and systems can perform a first cell search using the received signal to detect a strongly powered SSS sequence. Using a known SSS sequence corresponding to the strongly powered SSS sequence, the channel over which the strongly powered SSS sequence is received can be estimated. The estimated channel can then be used to determine the contribution of the strongly powered SSS and PSS sequence to the received signal so that it can be canceled. With the contribution of the strongly powered SSS and PSS sequence canceled from the received signal, a second cell search can be performed using the received signal to detect a weakly powered SSS sequence.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2012Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventor: C. Patent number: 9542267Abstract: Aspects of enhanced recovery mechanisms are described. A predetermined operating parameter for a power rail is set at the outset of system start. Afterwards, a processor is released to start with a power management circuit. In turn, the power management circuit receives a default operating parameter for the power rail from the processor, and stores the default operating parameter. The power management circuit also receives a runtime operating parameter for the power rail from the processor and modifies the operating parameter for the power rail according to the runtime operating parameter. If an error condition in the processor is encountered, the power management circuit may modify the operating parameter for the power rail according to the default operating parameter in response to a reset control signal from the processor. Use of the default operating parameter for the power rail may assist the processor to recover from the error condition.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2013Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Walid Nabhane, Veronica Alarcon, Mark Norman Fullerton, Ajmal A. Publication number: 20170005093Abstract: A field effect transistor (FET) configuration is provided having a gate region with a split work function for the source-side and drain-side of the gate region. The work function of a material is defined as the minimum energy required to extract an electron from the surface of the material to free space. Accordingly, the source-side portion of the gate region has a first work function that less than a second work function of the drain-side portion, the result of which is increased breakdown voltage at the drain-gate interface, without significantly increasing the threshold voltage of the FET. The split work function is achieved by layering n-type gate material over p-type gate material in the drain-side portion of the gate region, while only the n-type gate material us used in the source-side portion of the gate region.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2015Publication date: January 5, 2017Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Qintao ZHANG, Mei XUE, Wenwei YANG, Akira ITO
