Patent number: 8208551Abstract: Methods and systems for hierarchically layered adaptive median motion vector smoothing are disclosed. Aspects of one method may include generating motion vectors (MVs) for video pictures at each level of a hierarchical motion estimation process, where each level may use different resolution video pictures. The MVs may be smooth filtered at each level to reduce or remove spurious MVs. The smooth filtering may comprise scalar median filtering and/or vector median filtering. The smooth filtering may receive as inputs a plurality of MVs, for example, the MV being filtered and eight MVs from the surrounding video blocks. The vector costs of the nine MVs may be compared to a threshold vector cost, and those MVs with costs above the threshold value may be discarded. The threshold value may be dynamically changed based on, for example, content of the video pictures and/or to adjust a window size of the smoothing filter.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2007Date of Patent: June 26, 2012Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Brian Heng, Xuemin Chen

Patent number: 8209590Abstract: In a communication device that is operative to perform decoding, a log-likelihood ratio (LLR) circuitry operates to calculate LLRs corresponding to every bit location within a received bit sequence. This received bit sequence may include a header and a data portion (both of which may be included within a frame that also includes a preamble). The header is composed of information bits, a duplicate of those information bits (such as may be generated in accordance with repetition encoding), and redundancy bits. The header includes information corresponding to frame or data including frame length, a code type by which the data are encoded, a code rate by which the data are encoded, and a modulation by which symbols of the data are modulated. Once the header has been decoded, then the data corresponding thereto is decoded by a block decoder circuitry to make estimates of that data.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2009Date of Patent: June 26, 2012Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Ba-Zhong Shen, Jason A. Patent number: 8208857Abstract: A method for successive interference cancellation in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems is provided that uses variable interferer weights. This method allows interfering signals to be cancelled in order to recover a transmitted data signal. This method involves receiving the data signal subject to interference from at least one interfering signal. A first interfering signal is identified. Then an interferer weight coefficient associated with the first interfering signal is generated. This allows the first interfering signal to be cancelled from the received data signal using the interferer weight coefficient. These processes may then be reiterated for other interfering signals. It is then possible to recover the transmitted data signal from the received data signal.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2011Date of Patent: June 26, 2012Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Arie Heiman, Arkady Molev-Shteiman
