Abstract: In a DOCSIS-based communications system, different upstream channel descriptors (UCDs) all identify a single logical upsteam channel identifier (UCID) regardless of the type of cable modem (CM) to which the UCDs are sent. Different CMs having different capabilities (e.g., CMs configured according to the different DOCSIS standards 1.x, 2.0, and 3.0) receive their respective UCDs from an upstream headend. All the UCDs, however, refer to the same logical upstream channel. The different CMs therefore share this single logical upstream channel.

  • Publication number: 20110096915
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that utilize audio spatialization to help at least one listener on one end of a communication session differentiate between multiple talkers on another end of the communication session. In accordance with one embodiment, an audio teleconferencing system obtains speech signals originating from different talkers on one end of the communication session, identifies a particular talker in association with each speech signal, and generates mapping information sufficient to assign each speech signal associated with each identified talker to a corresponding audio spatial region. A telephony system communicatively connected to the audio teleconferencing system receives the speech signals and the mapping information, assigns each speech signal to a corresponding audio spatial region based on the mapping information, and plays back each speech signal in its assigned audio spatial region.

  • Publication number: 20110096942
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for applying noise suppression to one or more audio signals to generate a noise-suppressed audio signal therefrom. In a single-channel implementation, an input signal is received that comprises a desired audio signal and an additive noise signal. Noise suppression is then applied to the input signal to generate a noise-suppressed signal in a manner that is controlled by at least a parameter that specifies a degree of balance between distortion of the desired audio signal and unnaturalness of a residual noise signal included in the noise-suppressed signal. In an alternative single-channel implementation, a plurality of sub-band signals obtained by applying a frequency conversion process to a time domain representation of an input signal is received. Noise suppression is then applied to each of the sub-band signals by passing each of the sub-band signals through a time direction filter. Multi-channel noise suppression variants are also described.

  • Publication number: 20110098062
Abstract: A circuit includes an on-chip gyrating circuit that generates a motion parameter based on motion of the circuit. A global positioning system (GPS) receiver receives a GPS signal and that generates GPS position data based on the GPS signal. A processing module processes the motion parameter to produce motion data, generates position information based on at least one of the GPS position data and the motion data, converts outbound data into an outbound symbol stream, and converts an inbound symbol stream into inbound data. A wireless local area network (WLAN) transceiver section generates an outbound RF signal from the outbound symbol stream, and converts an inbound RF signal into the inbound symbol stream.

  • Patent number: 7932955
Abstract: A method and system for content adaptive analog video noise detection are provided. A motion metric (MM) value, an edge detection value, and a content detection value may be determined for pixels in a video image. The MM values of pixels with edge detection values smaller than an edge threshold value and with content detection values smaller than a content threshold value may be collected and accumulated for a portion of the noise level intervals when the MM values fall in this interval. The MM values collected and accumulated may be utilized to determine an average noise level for each of the intervals. A noise level indicator (NLI) for the current video image may be determined based on the noise level of the current image or on the noise levels of the current and at least one previous video images.

  • Patent number: 7933328
Abstract: A video compression algorithm for converting a digital video stream having video content into a compressed video bitstream, includes rate control to control the size of the compressed video bitstream. The rate control takes into account two or more of (1) detected scene changes, (2) detected repeated fields resulting from inverse telecine processing, (3) characterized video content complexity, and (4) a determined level of a model of a bit buffer associated with a decoder adapted to decode the compressed video bitstream. In preferred embodiments, the rate control takes into account two or more of these four factors in an integrated manner to change the allocation of bits for encoding different portions of the video stream.

  • Patent number: 7933227
Abstract: A signal processing system which discriminates between voice signals and data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier. The signal processing system includes a voice exchange, a data exchange and a call discriminator. The voice exchange is capable of exchanging voice signals between a switched circuit network and a packet based network. The signal processing system also includes a data exchange capable of exchanging data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier on the switched circuit network with unmodulated data signal packets on the packet based network. The data exchange is performed by demodulating data signals from the switched circuit network for transmission on the packet based network, and modulating data signal packets from the packet based network for transmission on the switched circuit network. The call discriminator is used to selectively enable the voice exchange and data exchange.
