Patent number: 9143384Abstract: A vehicular network is a closed network with known sources, destinations, and network connections that can be mapped in advance, and used to identify network resources needed to transmit a packet from a source to a destination. A network module can determine the source destination, and a priority of a packet based on the packet's content. Using the source and destination information, along with a network topology data, the network module can determine if two packets need the same network resources to be delivered to their destination. When the two packets do not use the same resources, there is no conflict, and the packets can be transmitted concurrently regardless of whether one of the packets has a higher priority than another packet. If there is a conflict, the network module transmits the packets based on the packets' priorities.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2011Date of Patent: September 22, 2015Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Nariman Yousefi, Yongbum Kim, John Walley, Sherman (Xuemin) Chen, Wael W. Patent number: 9143189Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments providing selecting various schemes for combining antenna signals for synchronization. For example, processing circuitry determines a first weight for a first antenna based on a signal strength metric of the first antenna and a second weight for a second antenna based on a signal strength metric of the second antenna. The processing circuitry receives a synchronization signal via the first antenna and the second antenna. Then the processing circuitry may weight the synchronization signal received via the first antenna according to the first weight to generate a first weighted synchronization signal and weight the synchronization signal received via the second antenna according to the second weight to generate a second weighted synchronization signal. The processing circuitry further combines the first weighted synchronization signal and the second weighted synchronization signal to generate a combined synchronization signal.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2012Date of Patent: September 22, 2015Assignee: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventor: Shuangquan Wang

Publication number: 20150263762Abstract: A local area network (LAN) backbone is implemented within an environment such as a self-contained environment (e.g., an automobile, an aircraft, a train, a ship, and/or any other environment). The LAN backbone is affected by AWGN, NBI, and/or impulse noise (noise). The LAN backbone supports communications based on an Ethernet communication protocol (e.g., a 1000Base-T1 based system that includes at least one single twisted pair). A device receives a first LDPC coded signal via the LAN backbone and decodes it to recover an input signal of a control system. The device also uses soft information generated during the decoding to compensate for the noise affecting the LAN backbone and then processes the input signal to generate a control signal for the control system. The device then and encodes the control signal to generate a second LDPC coded signal and transmits the second LDPC coded signal via the LAN backbone.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2015Publication date: September 17, 2015Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Ba-Zhong Shen, Mehmet Vakif Tazebay, William Gene Bliss, Ahmad Chini, Mehdi Tavassoli Kilani

Patent number: 9137085Abstract: A system and method for controlling a performance of a communication link in a data communication system comprises mapping performance of a communication link, as characterized by metrics computed at a first protocol layer in a network device, to quality of the communication link as characterized by metrics computed at a second protocol layer in the network device. The second protocol layer is higher than the first protocol layer in a protocol stack running on the network device. A setting of one or more communication link controls at the first protocol layer is adjusted to attain a given communication link performance at the first protocol layer that, according to the mapping between the communication link performance at the first protocol layer and the quality of the communication link at the second protocol layer, corresponds to a target quality of the communication link at a second protocol layer.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2011Date of Patent: September 15, 2015Assignee: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventor: Christopher Craig Cunningham

Patent number: 9136904Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure enable bandwidth extension of receiver front-end circuits without the use of inductors. As a result, significantly smaller and cheaper receiver implementations are made possible. In an embodiment, bandwidth extension is achieved by virtue of very small floating capacitors that are coupled around amplifier stages of the receiver front-end circuit. Each of the capacitors is configured to generate a negative capacitance for the preceding stage (e.g., equalizer or amplifier), thus extending the bandwidth of the preceding stage. A capacitively-degenerated cross-coupled transistor pair allows bandwidth extension for the final (e.g., amplifier) stage. Embodiments further enable DC offset compensation with the use of a digital feedback loop. The feedback loop can thus be turned on/off as needed, reducing power consumption.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2012Date of Patent: September 15, 2015Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Tamer Ali, Ali Nazemi, Namik Kocaman
