Abstract: A wireless device is operated such that transmission and reception by the wireless device uses half-duplex frequency division duplexing. The wireless device transmits in an uplink subframe at a first frequency and receives in a downlink subframe at a second frequency. The uplink subframe and downlink subframe occur at different times. The frame structure that is used has a special subframe (80) to allow at least switching from downlink reception to uplink transmission. In one example, the special subframe (80) consists only of a downlink pilot time slot (85), to allow downlink pilot signals to be received at the wireless device, and a guard period (90), during which no data is received at or transmitted by the wireless device. In another example, the special sub frame (80) comprises a downlink pilot time slot (85) and a guard period (90), the special subframe (80) having no uplink pilot time slot for uplink pilot signals.

  • Publication number: 20150280881
Abstract: A user equipment UE determines at least one first set SI of physical resource blocks PRBs, and detects downlink signaling within search spaces of set(s) SI. Through that downlink signaling the UE obtains a configuration for a downlink control channel, and that configuration indicates at least one second set S2 of PRBs and at least one search space specific for the UE which lies within S2. The UE utilizes the obtained configuration to monitor at least some of the search spaces of SI and the at least one search space specific for the UE of S2 for further downlink control signaling. Multiple implementations are detailed for how the UE gets SI. This invention is particularly useful for a configurable ePDCCH region in a stand-alone carrier where the UE is not able to get the new configuration from some other carrier such as a PCell whose configuration does not change.

  • Patent number: 9148186
Abstract: A radio receiver supporting cancellation of thermal and phase noise in a down-converted RF signal. An inbound RF signal and blocking signal are provided directly to a passive mixer for down-conversion into a first baseband signal having data, thermal noise, and reciprocal mixing (RM) noise components. The inbound signals are also provided to a transconductance circuit, the output of which is provided to a second passive mixer for conversion into a current signal having data and blocking signal components, and a RM image. The blocking signal component and the RM image are mixed with a second LO signal, derived from the blocking signal, to produce a RM noise cancellation signal. The data component of the current signal is converted into a second baseband signal having data and thermal noise components. The first baseband signal, second baseband signal and RM noise cancellation signal are then combined through harmonic recombination.

  • Patent number: 9148805
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for transitioning small cell base stations out of a discontinuous transmission (DTX) mode. The system and method comprise monitoring at the small cell base stations uplink transmissions from user terminals (UTs) to a macrocell base station while the small cell base stations are in the DTX mode. The small cell base stations can use the monitored uplink transmissions to, for example, measure received power levels from the UTs and/or measure uplink path losses between the small cell base stations and the UTs. The small cell base stations can report these measured values back to the macrocell base station through a backhaul network. Based on these measurements, the macrocell base station can determine which small cell base stations can support which UTs without transitioning the small cell base stations out of the DTX mode.
