Patent number: 4537392Abstract: A foldable swing set includes a crossbar whose opposite ends are supported by pairs of legs. Each pair of legs is secured to the associated end of the crossbar by a bracket which forms sockets sized to slidably receive the upper ends of the legs. Each leg is rotatably and slidably secured to its bracket socket enabling the leg to be swung perpendicular to the crossbar and telescopically received in that socket to help support the swing set in its erected position and to be withdrawn from that socket and swung parallel to the crossbar in order to fold the swing set into a compact package.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1984Date of Patent: August 27, 1985Assignee: Brown Group Recreational Products, Inc.Inventor: William L. Defibaugh

Patent number: 4478410Abstract: A swing is composed of a flexible strap-like seat formed at its underside with integral lengthwise tubes adjacent its front and rear edges. A pair of chains extend through the tubes. Corresponding first ends of the chains are releasably connected by clips to the opposite chain lengths at locations thereon spaced from the opposite ends of said seat so as to form hangers for maintaining the seat in a level gently curved condition. Corresponding second ends of said chains are suspended from an overhead support.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1982Date of Patent: October 23, 1984Assignee: Brown Group Recreational Products, Inc.Inventor: William H. Ziegler, Jr.

Patent number: 4447093Abstract: A wheel is composed of a rigid plastic inner section forming the wheel hub and rim and a resilient plastic tire section encircling the rim. A key formed integrally with the rim extends radially outward therefrom and interlockingly projects into the tire so as to mechanically connect the tire to the rim all around the wheel. The key can be formed with axially extending portions spaced radially outboard of the rim and terminating flush with the outer surface of the tire section so as to provide colored side wall decorations at one or both sides of the wheel.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1982Date of Patent: May 8, 1984Assignee: Brown Group Recreational Products, Inc.Inventors: Joel C. Cunard, William H. Ziegler, Jr.

Patent number: 4410060Abstract: A power-assisted velocipede can be propelled selectively or concurrently by pedal power and by a battery-operated power unit. The velocipede includes a pedal crank which is mechanically coupled to the rear wheel by way of a sprocket incorporating an overrunning clutch and the power unit is mechanically coupled to the rear wheel by way of a second sprocket also incorporating a one-way clutch, both clutches operating so as to permit the rear wheel to overrun in the forward direction. The power unit is mounted to the frame and to the rear wheel axle and incorporates a small DC motor and a speed-reducing gear chain, the first gear being coupled to the motor and the last gear being rotatively coupled to the second sprocket by interfitting with the face of the last gear. The power unit is small, compact and easy to install on a more or less standard velocipede.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1981Date of Patent: October 18, 1983Assignee: Brown Group Recreational Products, Inc.Inventor: Joel C. Cunard

Patent number: 4405179Abstract: A wheel capable of being used as the front or rear wheel of a chain-driven velocipede or as the front wheel of a pedal-driven tricycle has a wheel rim whose hub is formed with an axial passage and an array of receptacles extending inward from the opposite ends of the hub. A pair of identical metal plates are positioned at opposite ends of the hub, each plate having a set of tabs aligned with the receptacles at the associated end of the hub and an axial opening which is in register with the passage through the hub. The two plates are clamped together with the wheel hub between them so that they rotate in unison with the wheel hub. When mounted on an axle, the wheel can function as a non-driven velocipede wheel. Also, pedal crank sections can be inserted through the axial plate openings into the opposite ends of the hub passage and secured to the plates so that the wheel can be used as the front wheel of a tricycle.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1981Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: Brown Group Recreational Products, Inc.Inventors: Robert J. Patent number: 4387070Abstract: Method for making a wheel composed of a rigid plastic inner section forming the wheel hub and rim and a resilient plastic tire section encircling the rim. A key formed integrally with the rim extends radially outward therefrom and interlockingly projects into the tire so as to mechanically connect the tire to the rim all around the wheel. The key can be formed with axially extending portions spaced radially outboard of the rim and terminating flush with the outer surface of the tire section so as to provide colored side wall decorations at one or both sides of the wheel. A method of molding the tire directly onto the discoid section is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1981Date of Patent: June 7, 1983Assignee: Brown Group Recreational Products, Inc.Inventors: Joel C. Patent number: 4378946Abstract: A canopy structure for a collapsible stroller includes a first bail whose bight is shorter than the distance between the arms of the stroller pusher handle, the free ends of the first bail being pivotally connected to the pusher handle arm at inboard walls thereof. The canopy structure also includes a second shallower bail whose bight is longer than the distance between the pusher handle arms and includes means for pivotally connecting the free ends of the second bail to the pusher handle arms at the outboard walls thereof at points spaced above the pivotal connections of the first bail. A flexible fabric body is connected between the bights of the bails which body is dimensioned so that, when the first bail is oriented in a substantially horizontal plane, the bight of the second bail engages the pusher handle so that the fabric body is stretched between the two bails.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1981Date of Patent: April 5, 1983Assignee: Brown Group Recreational Products, Inc.Inventors: Charles L.
