Patent number: 4091530Abstract: A field termination tool for electrical connectors includes laterally floating combs having edges which engage respective longitudinal slots on each side of an electrical connector to define a reference plane, the connector being urged toward the reference plane by a wave or blade spring carried on the connector support. The insertion tool is constructed to force insulated conductors into respective insulation piercing portions of connector contacts equally well for different connector widths by apparatus for positioning one of a pair of oppositely directed rotatable insertion arms with respect to the other and to the connector support and by providing a floating support structure to equalize forces across a connector. The comb slots each have a cutting edge which is cooperable in a scissor action with the cutting edges of the insertion blades carried on the insertion arms to cut the conductors immediately prior to insertion.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1976Date of Patent: May 30, 1978Assignee: Bunker Ramo CorporationInventors: John Peter Nijman, Terence Neil Patterson

Patent number: 4090760Abstract: An electrical connector system has a contact member with a tunnel portion and spaced, vertical contact pillars secured within the tunnel portion. Extensions of the contact pillars bind the contact member to a metal plate in staple-like fashion. The metal plate is preferably useful as an electrode for medical electronic equipment. A cable connector which snap-latches directly to the contact pillars has an encasement formed of semi-flexible arm members joined at a base portion. A wedge-shaped frontal portion is positioned at the end of each arm member such that points of the adjacent frontal portions are spaced less than the spacing between the contact member contact pillars. A notch is provided rearward of the frontal portions on each of the arms for latching to each of the contact pillars when the cable connector is pushed into the tunnel portion of the contact member.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1976Date of Patent: May 23, 1978Assignee: Bunker Ramo CorporationInventor: Robert J. Patent number: 4090656Abstract: A soldering iron for soldering a plurality of wires to metal liners in respective channels of a connector. The soldering iron can be used with a known wire positioning device. The iron is made from a plate of heat conducting material. A plurality of projections extend fron an end face of the plate. The projections are spaced to correspond to the spacing of the metal liners in the channels of the connector which is being joined to the plurality of conductors. The sides of the projections converge toward the extremities of the projections. These converging sides are plated with a material to prevent oxidation and to cause the solder to wet the sides. The projections are dimensioned so that their extremities can be positioned within the channels while the converging sides contact respective edges of the metal liners in the channels. In such position, heat is conducted by the iron in order to solder the wires placed within the channels to the metal liners.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1977Date of Patent: May 23, 1978Assignee: Bunker Ramo CorporationInventors: Shoichi Sato, Shizuo Oda

Patent number: 4087148Abstract: An electrical connector with zero insertion force for mechanically supporting and contacting the conductive fingers of printed circuit boards, liquid crystal plates, and like contact carriers. The connector is comprised of an elongated connector body, an elongated clamping member, and a clamping means to clamp the body and member toward one another with the contact carrier sandwiched therebetween. In a preferred embodiment, the connector body contains a plurality of electrical spring contacts, a portion of each contact extending slightly beyond one lateral sidewall of the body and positioned to contact one of the fingers of the contact carrier when the latter lies adjacent the sidewall. Patent number: 4079343Abstract: The following specification describes a connector assembly employing a capacitor assembly having axially spaced radially extending capacitor plates carried by a ceramic or dielectric member. One plurality of plates are connected in common to the connector shell and other radially extending axially spaced plates are connected to respective contacts of the connector to form a filter capacitor for each contact. A conductive elastomer or metal spring engaging one of the common plates under axial pressure ensures a secure electrical ground connection between the plates common to the connector contacts and the shell while a metal spring preassembled to each contact at an axial position coincident with the capacitor assembly exerts a radial outward pressure to ensure an electrical connection to the capacitor plates associated with the respective contact.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1976Date of Patent: March 14, 1978Assignee: Bunker Ramo CorporationInventor: John P.
