  • Patent number: 4075691
Abstract: A communication control unit useful for operably coupling a plurality of peripheral devices to a data processing system including a central processing unit (CPU) and a main system memory. The communication control unit is comprised of three major sections: (1) A direct memory access module (DMA) for communicating with the memory of the CPU; (2) A serial interface adaptor module (SIA) for converting parallel data to serial data for transmission to a peripheral device and serial data to parallel data on receiving from a peripheral device; and (3) A programmable controller module (PCM) connected between the DMA and SIA for providing the overall control of message reception and transmission. The PCM comprises a small special-purpose programmable parallel computer. A program (firmware) stored in a read-only memory of the PCM enables the PCM to handle the different communication disciplines observed by various peripheral devices operable with the communication control unit.

  • Patent number: 4070548
Abstract: A mounting bracket is carried by an end flange of a first electrical connector and includes projections which slidably engage grooves in a second electrical connector which is supported by the bracket. A hood covers the rear end of the first connector and at least partially covers and embraces the second connector supported by the bracket and includes an internal lateral projection which engages a hook-shaped portion of the bracket. The contact capacity of the first connector is greater than that of the second connector and electrical connections extend, within the hood, to connect the contacts of the second connector to contacts in selected positions of the first connector, so that selected conductors of a multi-conductor cable can be extended to the conductors of another multi-connector cable which has a lesser number of conductors, by way of cooperable connectors which are matable with the first and second connectors.

  • Patent number: 4065747
Abstract: An acoustic communication system is disclosed as a secondary means for command control of underwater operations from a surface unit. The system includes a diving acoustic command control unit for use in the event of prime propagation path occlusion. Self-check verification as well as data read-out upon interrogation is provided from the surface unit to an underwater receiver-transponder. The latter will also respond to acoustic command signals from the diving unit. • Patent number: 4058118
Abstract: A miniaturized cardiotachometer is worn by a user typically adjacent the volar aspect of the wrist or the temple to provide the user with a numerical readout of his or her pulse rate. The time between two heartbeats is measured by the number of pulses from a fixed frequency source that occur. The measurement is made after a predetermined delay to eliminate or reduce noise signals, the number of pulses of the fixed frequency being converted into the pulse rate and displayed numerically.

  • Patent number: 4047376
Abstract: An electrical clock is provided in which pulses of a 10% duty cycle are repeatedly applied at a one second rate to a solenoid which attracts an armature attached to a reciprocating ratchet once every second, the reciprocating ratchet being returned to a neutral position between each pulse. The reciprocating ratchet drives a toothed wheel which is located on a main axis of the clock frame view suitable pawls. The second hand of the clock is directly coupled by a second hand shaft to the toothed wheel. The toothed wheel, by means of a pinion, drives an intermediate gear which is located outbound from the main axis. The intermediate gear drives a minute gear, the minute gear being mounted on a minute tube concentric with the second hand shaft. The minute hand is directly affixed to the minute hand tube. The minute gear, by means of a pinion, drives an outbound motion gear, the motion gear in turn driving an hour gear coupled to an hour tube whose axis is concentric with the second shaft and the minute tube.
