  • Publication number: 20100237281
Abstract: The present invention is the use of Poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) in the creation of peroxide gels for various applications. Such applications include bleaching of hair, teeth, laundry or any other bleachable item. Blending of the gel is accomplished by mixing the Poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) with a peroxide such as hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide, sodium perborate, or sodium percarbonate, usually also with water or an appropriate organic solvent. Peroxide concentrations in these new gels can reach a 30% concentration of hydrogen peroxide while maintaining a shelf life of six months at room temperature without developing peroxide decomposition.

  • Patent number: 7786499
Abstract: The present invention is a through-hole LED light source with capability of emitting a beam angle of less than 75 degrees. The light source presents a three-dimensional lead frame with a well, into which at least one LED is mounted, and an optical housing which serves as a directional lens. Through adjustment of the housing and lead well properties, beam angle is adjusted to any angle. The frame is three-dimensional, preferably cylindrical, with both inner and outer portions, electrically isolated. The inner portion serves as the mounting area for the LEDs (and contains the well) and the LED serves as the electrical conduit between the portions, completing a circuit an illuminating the LED.

  • Publication number: 20100145191
Abstract: Methods for staining a selected tissue with a dye, stain or pigment that is attuned to absorb the energy from a radiant energy source are disclosed. The stain enhances absorption of incoming radiant energy, which results in increased destruction of stained tissues and decreased destruction of underlying tissues. This method provides clinicians with the ability to selectively mark a tissue for destruction, while leaving wanted tissues generally intact. Optionally, a radiant energy opaque substance that can be applied adjacent the stained treatment area to protect against incidental exposure to untargeted tissue. Also optionally, an oxidizing substance may be applied with the stain to further enhance the effect of this method. Wavelengths of radiant energy to which tissue is normally transparent may be utilized by applying appropriate stains to targeted tissue, thereby allowing targeted tissue to even be destroyed when it lies beneath untargeted tissue.

  • Publication number: 20100119987
Abstract: The present invention is a method of treating residual caries utilizing a matched laser and dye combination. After initial preparation and excavation of a caries site, a dye is flooded into the site which stains areas of residual caries. A laser with a complimentary wavelength is then used to ablate stained areas. Since healthy dental tissue will not receive the dye and allow staining, diseased tissue will be the only tissue that is stained, not only providing a visual indicator, but also providing a more efficient surface to receive laser energy and allow for more efficient ablation of the compromised tissue. According to the method, the dye may contain and enhancing, oxidizing compound or an anesthetic, and surrounding tissues may be protected by the use of substances opaque to the radiant energy. Indocyanine green has shown particular effectiveness as a dye in this and related methods.

  • Publication number: 20100117560
Abstract: The present invention is an LED module for channel letter illumination utilizing multiple through-hole LEDs in a pixel formation as a light source where one surface mounted LED or other forms of LEDs were previously used. The use of a number of small through-hole LEDs ideally requires that a beam angle between and including 15° and 180° in vertical and horizontal directions, respectively, be utilized. When multiple light sources are used on a module, the distance between light sources is to be between 20 mm and 1 cm. The use of several smaller LEDs reduces the current needed to generate light of appropriate intensity and, thus reduces energy cost and heat generation. The use of smaller LEDs also assists in excess heat dissipation.

  • Publication number: 20100111591
Abstract: The present invention is a delivery tip for flowable materials with bristles or fibers extending therefrom. The tip is a cannula with a tapered outlet and features a bristle or fiber bundle with a binding restriction member that interfaces with the cannula at some point within the cannula but has a smaller cross-sectional area for flow passage than the cannula at that point. The bristle or fiber bundle extends out of the tapered outlet. The delivery tip is provided means to connect to a material reservoir with flowable material. When positive pressure is applied to the reservoir, material then will flow through the cannula, around the restriction member, into the bristles or fibers and out the outlet for distribution to a desired surface.
