The light assembly is selectively actuable to emit light through an aperture defined by the seat panel in a defined light pattern to illuminate a recessed space in the seat panel. The seat assembly when configured as a forward seat assembly of a vehicle provides task lighting for a passenger seated rearward of the forward seat assembly, to illuminate a task area which can include one or more of the exterior surface of the seat panel, a leg space between the forward seat assembly and the passenger's seat assembly, and/or a seat space generally including a portion of the upper leg and/or lap area of the passenger.

Abstract: A combination panel assembly includes a vehicle panel and a leg system. The vehicle panel includes a first panel side defining a vehicle appearance surface, and an opposing second panel side. The leg system is attached to the second panel side and includes a plurality of legs movable between a stowed position and a deployed position. The combination panel assembly is movable between a vehicle position and a table position. In the vehicle position and with the plurality of legs in the stowed position, the vehicle panel encloses a compartment opening of a vehicle compartment of a vehicle. In the table position and with the plurality of legs is in the deployed position, the combination panel assembly is fully detached from the vehicle and operable as a freestanding table including a table surface defined by the vehicle appearance surface and supported at a table height by the leg system.

The panel has opposing first and second appearance layers and is reversible in the opening between first and second positions. In the first position, the first appearance layer is outwardly facing in the opening and the second appearance layer faces inwardly to the compartment. In the second position, the second appearance layer is outwardly facing in the opening and the first appearance layer faces inwardly to the compartment. One of the appearance layers is made of a protective polymeric coating such as a thermosetting polyurethane-based coating or thermoset polyurea coating. The other appearance layer is made of one of a laminate structure which can include a wood veneer, a textile, or a carpeting material. A method for making the multilayer panel is provided.

An appearance surface portion attached to the first portion and second portion of the panel member forms an integral hinge between the first and second portions of the panel member. The panel member may be configured as a floor panel of a vehicle.
