Abstract: A starting monomer mixture containing a minor amount of a cross linking agent is precipitation polymerized in a diluent/precipitant which is an unlimited solvent for the starting monomers but is neither a solvent or a substantial swelling agent for the resultant polymer. The amount of cross linking agent is maintained during polymerization at a critically low percent by volume relative to the entire polymerization mixture. The resultant product falling from the polymerization contains substantially only soluble hydrophilic polymers and copolymers.

Abstract: Stepwise synthesis in solution and cyclization by means of active esters or another method suitable for peptide bond formation were used to prepare analogues of deamino-vasopressin with the disulphide bridge altered to the thioether group. In sequence position 8 of the peptide chain the analogs differed by the nature of basic amino acid. Typical vasopressin-like activities, mainly antidiuretic, were very high in these analogs; of particular importance will be their haemodynamic activity.

Abstract: Polymeric alkoxides based on hydroxyalkyl methacrylates consist of units ##EQU1## where X is the organic bivalent group with the straight or branched C.sub.2 --C.sub.20 chain and M is Li, Na or K. The polymer has advantageously a heterogeneous structure of a macroporous gel with the inner surface 0.5 - 500 m.sup.2 /g. Polymeric alkoxides are prepared by treatment of a homopolymer or copolymer containing hydroxyl groups with the necessary amount of an alkali metal organic compound dissolved in an aprotic solvent, to convert the hydroxyl groups. Alkyl, aralkyl or aryl C.sub.1 to C.sub.30 derivatives of Li, Na or K are used as the alkali metal organic compounds.
Abstract: A method for producing emulsions, concentrated dispersions and pastes based on plasticizers and hydrophilic fillers consists in polymerization of a mixture of monomers, at least one of which contains one or two carboxylic groups, alternatively in a form of anhydride, and the other contains more than one vinyl group in its molecule, by common free-radical initiators in a medium of a plasticizers or a mixture of plasticizers with an admixture of saturated or unsaturated higher fatty acids, either substituted by halogen or unsubstituted, and/or higher alcohols. The resulting polymer of the maximum particle size 100 .mu.m is transformed into the Na, K, or NH.sub.4 form. The emulsion, concentrated dispersion or paste is applied without further operations in processing of plastics, especially in production of plastic and synthetic leathers.
Abstract: The invention relates to new esters of carboxylic acids formally substituted in the alpha-position by sodium or potassium which have the formulaR.sup.1 R.sup.2 CMCOOR.sup.3 (1)whereR.sup.1 is H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.16 linear or branched alkyl, phenyl or tolylR.sup.2 is C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 linear or branched alkyl,R.sup.3 is C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkyl, andM is Na or K and to a method for their preparation consisting in the reaction of a carboxylic acid ester with An or K salt of hexamethyldisilazane. The reaction is carried out in a hydrocarbon medium which may contain up to 20 vol.-% of organic ether and at -80.degree. to +50.degree. C, while the molar ratio of amide salt to ester is 0.7 to 1.5. The preparation can be also carried out in the presence of alkali metal alkoxide C.sub.3 to C.sub.16 with the straight or branched molecule at the alkoxide - to - metallo ester ratios 0.5 to 20, giving the addition product of alpha-metallo ester and alkoxide.

Abstract: A method for preparation of polymethacrylate esters by the anionic polymerization characterized by application of new initiation systems based on esters of .alpha.-lithio carboxylic acids having 2-30 carbon atoms in a straight or branched chain and 1-6 ester groups in a molecule, or on their adducts or complexes with lithium alkoxides having 3-16 carbon atoms in a straight or branched chain. The polymerization is carried out at temperatures -70.degree. to +50.degree. C, preferably at +20.degree. C, with the monomer - to - initiator ratio equal 10 to 1500. The polymers which have new mechanical and solution properties due to the new preparation method are suitable as additives into mineral oils increasing their viscosity indexes and suppressing their solidification temperature, as a cement in medical practice, and the like.
Abstract: There is disclosed a method for the production of carriers for biologically active compounds comprising forming a bond by admixing (a) a three dimensional water insoluble diazotizable polymer operative to function as a primary carrier and (b) a water soluble linear polymer having ligands operative to bind said biologically active compounds and operative to function as a secondary carrier, whereby the union of (a) and (b) is operative to serve as a carrier for biologically active compounds and carriers produced in accordance therewith.

Abstract: Biologically active compounds such as enzymes are insolubilized by hydrophilizing a macroporous substantially hydrophobic carrier by hydrolysis of a thin surface layer of the carrier to form free carboxylic acid groups, and thereafter activating the carrier and reacting the activated carrier with a biologically active compound.
Abstract: Solutions of polymers or copolymers containing up to 100% of acrylonitrile units and from 0 to 50 mol percent of units of one or more comonomers copolymerizable with acrylonitrile into nitric acid-soluble polymers is wet spun in a coagulating bath containing a constant surplus of neutralizing agents in an amount ranging from about 0.05 to about 5% by weight which neutralizing agents are sufficient to convert the nitric acid into nitrates and to make the filaments leaving the coagulating bath free of nitric acid. The coagulating bath is maintained at a temperature at least about 5.degree. C above the temperature at which the solution of the same concentration is saturated with respect to its nitrate content.
