Publication number: 20220201467Abstract: In certain embodiments, a (e.g., 5G) wireless network has a (e.g., CBSD) base station and any suitable number of instances of user equipment (UE). For each group of one or more UEs, one of the UEs is designated as a primary UE that stores UE context information for the other (secondary) UEs in the UE group. To connect to a secondary UE, the base station can retrieve the UE context information from the secondary UE's associated primary UE without having to retrieve the secondary UE's context information from the core network, thereby reducing backbone bandwidth usage and delays in connecting the secondary UE, especially when many secondary UE request connections within a short time interval.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2020Publication date: June 23, 2022Applicant: Charter Communications Operating, LLCInventor: Volkan Sevindik

Patent number: 11363555Abstract: In a Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) system, high-power customer premises equipment (HP-CPE) transmits a registration request to a spectrum access system (SAS), which determines a CPE device type for the HP-CPE and transmits a positive registration response to the HP-CPE. The HP-CPE transmits a grant request to the SAS, which transmits a positive grant response to the HP-CPE. The HP-CPE transmits a heartbeat request to the SAS, which relies on the CPE device type to approve the heartbeat request without relying on a corresponding Coordinated Periodic Activity among SASs (CPAS) process, and transmits a positive heartbeat response to the HP-CPE. In one method, the SAS determines the CPE device type using a database that maps FCC model numbers to device types. In another method, the registration request contains a field with the CPE device type. Both methods enable immediate HP-CPE authorization without the delay of a CPAS process.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2020Date of Patent: June 14, 2022Assignee: Charter Communications Operating, LLCInventor: Lakhbir Singh
