Abstract: Inhibitors of lactate dehydrogenase stimulate keratinocyte proliferation and collagen synthesis in cutaneous tissues. The inhibitors are used preferably with certain co-active ingredients such as pyruvic acid, acetic acid, acetoacetic acid, .beta.-hydroxybutyric acid, a Krebs cycle pathway metabolite, an aliphatic saturated or an unsaturated fatty acid containing from 8 to 26 carbon atoms, an .omega.-hydroxy acid containing from 22 to 34 carbon atoms, glutamic acid, glutamine, valine, alanine, leucine, and mixtures thereof.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition is provided which includes ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) solubilized by a crosslinked non-emulsifying siloxane elastomer in a carrier medium of a volatile siloxane. Aesthetic properties are also improved by the presence of the crosslinked non-emulsifying siloxane elastomer.

Abstract: A process is provided for preparing a silicone elastomer composition for cosmetic products which includes the steps of feeding the silicone elastomer composition comprising a silicone rubber in a carrier fluid into a reactor, mixing the composition in the reactor, delivering the composition from the reactor into a high pressure pump, pumping the fluid into a device for reducing particles of rubber into smaller sizes and recirculating the resultant size reduced particles back to the reactor. The device for reducing particle size is preferably a high pressure fed homogenizer, most advantageously a sonolator.

Abstract: Cosmetic skin or hair care compositions containing a liquid, inert, hydrophobic fluorocarbon infused with carbon dioxide. The compositions increase blood flow to the skin, thus increasing endogenous oxygen and nutrient delivery to the skin.

Abstract: A skin treatment composition is provided which includes a crosslinked non-emulsifying siloxane elastomer, a skin conditioning agent, a volatile siloxane and no more than 5% water. Hydrocarbons such as petrolatum and polyols such as glycerin are the preferred skin conditioning agents. Inclusion of the elastomer provides a non-traditional smooth/silky feel to the skin upon application with a non-draggy rub in.

Abstract: A swab is provided which includes an elongate stem and an absorbent covering such as cotton surrounding opposite tips of the stem. An antimicrobial agent is dispersed within the absorbent covering. A process is also provided for manufacturing the swabs. The process includes the steps of preparing a liquid medium containing the antimicrobial agent, contacting the absorbent covering with the liquid medium and then drying the absorbent covering.

Abstract: An oral composition, particularly a gel, is provided which includes at least 2%, preferably 6% or higher of hydrogen peroxide in a carrier stabilized by a triphenylmethane dye. Particularly useful as the dye are FD&C Blue 1 and FD&C Green 3 at levels ranging from 0.006 to 1 %. Further stability can also be achieved through use of a chelating acid, particularly phosphoric acid.

Abstract: A dispensing package for cream compositions is provided which includes a container body have a longitudinal central axis. The container body defines a storage chamber for the composition. An opening in the container body is present for discharging the composition. A fixed cam opposite the opening has teeth oriented tangentially to the longitudinal axis. A rotatable cog mounted on the cam has a plurality of ratchet teeth engageable with the teeth of the fixed cam. The cog is provided with external peripheral cams oriented parallel with the longitudinal axis. A spindle mounted on the cog extends along the central longitudinal axis between the cog and the opening. An elevator is mounted on the spindle and is displaceable between the cog and the opening to dispense the composition through the opening. A pawl is oriented transverse to the longitudinal axis and is engageable with the peripheral cams to rotate the cog and spindle on the fixed cam.

Abstract: A hairspray composition is provided with improved combability, spray efficiency and anti-foaming properties. The hairspray includes a film-forming resin, a carrier such as ethanol and a small level of a propoxylated non-ethoxylated silicone copolyol.

Abstract: A hair treatment composition is provided that includes a water-insoluble, dispersible polymeric resin having a viscosity of less than 2 centipoise at 25.degree. C. when dispersed at 10% in water and a water-soluble amphoteric polymer.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use of stannous compounds to combat bad breath. Preferably, the stannous compound is used together with a zinc compound. A preferred stannous compound is stannous pyrophosphate, and a preferred zinc compound is zinc citrate. The compounds are preferably included in an oral care composition such as a dentifrice or a mouth wash.

Abstract: A skin treatment composition is provided which includes a crosslinked non-emulsifying siloxane elastomer, a volatile siloxane and at least 50% by weight of water. Inclusion of the elastomer provides a unique liquid/powdery feel when rubbed into the skin.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition is provided which includes ferulic acid or its C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 alcohol esters and dimethyl isosorbide in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Dimethyl isosorbide enhances skin lightening, antioxidant and other skin activities of ferulic acid and its esters.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition is provided which includes a C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid and a C.sub.16 -C.sub.20 alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid delivered in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Most preferred as the longer chain acids is a mixture fractionated from lanolin. The cosmetic composition can be employed in a method for treating dermatological disorders, chronoaging and environmental abuse. Preferably the composition is intended to inhibit or reduce the formation of wrinkles and sagging of skin while improving glow and firmness.
