  • Patent number: 5322615
Abstract: Provided is a method for removing residual sulfur from a hydrotreated naphtha feedstock. The process comprises contacting the naphtha feedstock with a first solid sulfur sorbent comprising a metal on a support to thereby form a first effluent. The effluent is then contacted with a sulfur conversion catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal in the presence of hydrogen, with the resulting effluent being contacted with a second solid sulfur sorbent containing a Group IA or IIA metal, to thereby lower the sulfur content of the feedstock to less than 10 ppb, and to as low as 1 ppb or less. The feedstock can then be safely used with highly sulfur sensitive zeolitic reforming catalysts without adversely affecting the useful life of the catalyst.

  • Patent number: 5316413
Abstract: An offshore double cone structure for operation on an ocean foundation has a double-cone concrete shell having a neck ring at the top of the shell and a base caisson that supports the double-cone shell. The caisson rests on the ocean foundation. The environmental loads, topside weight, and self weight of the double-cone shell are transferred by double-cone shell action through the base caisson to the foundation. The base caisson's exterior wall can be either vertical or sloping. The neck ring is at an elevation sufficiently high that the wave and ice interactions with the neck ring do not increase global ice loads acting on the structure. The neck ring has sufficient area to provide room for facilities through the neck.

  • Patent number: 5312460
Abstract: Disclosed is a fuel composition comprising a hydrocarbon boiling in the gasoline or diesel range and from about 30 to about 5,000 parts per million of an alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamate having at least one basic nitrogen and an average molecular weight of about 600 to 6,000 and wherein the alkyl group is substantially straight-chain of at least 15 carbon atoms. The instant invention is based on the discovery that use of the unique hydrocarbyl group, i.e., an alkylphenyl group wherein the alkyl group is derived from a substantially straight-chain alkyl group of at least 15 carbon atoms imparts to the alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamate not only lubricating oil compatibility but also an unexpected decrease in crankcase deposits.

  • Patent number: 5305829
Abstract: A steam drive method for low permeability formations is described which utilizes a plurality of wellbores in an elongated pattern configuration. The wells initially undergo a cyclic steaming and production operation, wherein as each steaming cycle is initiated a fracture system is created having a heated zone surrounding each fracture. The cyclic steaming and production is repeated until thermal communication between vertical fracture planes is established, and oil recovery through the single well stimulation is significantly reduced. Thereafter, cyclic steaming is halted and new injection wells, centrally situated, are established and used to initiate a steam drive, wherein the heated zone around the fractures helps to reduce the viscosity of and mobilize the hydrocarbons not initially recovered during the cyclic steaming operation.
