  • Patent number: 4884843
Abstract: A seat tilt mechanism includes a seat frame pivotally secured at its forward end to a floor mounted support. A first toggle link is pivotally secured at a pivot axis eccentrically displaced from the tilt axis for the seat and is in turn pivotally secured to a second link whose other end is pivotally secured to the rear of the seat frame about a support axis. An actuator is pivotally secured for rotation about the support axis together with the second link and preferably, the second toggle link is formed as a portion of the actuator. Moreover, the actuator forms a support leg for supporting the rear end of the seat in the seating position. A latch mechanism retains the seat in its seating position. The latch mechanism is supported by a latch housing which rotates in unison with the support leg so that both members are retracted beneath the seat as the seat is pivoted from its seating position to an access position which permits access to an area behind the seat.

  • Patent number: 4867260
Abstract: A drive line assembly and mounting arrangement for converting a front engine front wheel drive vehicle to an on-demand four wheel drive system. The vehicle rear axle is adapted to be selectively driven by means of a viscous fluid coupling positioned intermediate a forward angled universal-joint drive line assembly and a rear torque tube enclosed longitudinal propeller shaft assembly. An overrunning clutch is rigidly connected intermediate a forwardly extending neck portion of the rear axle drive housing and the torque tube defines a composite torque tube structure. The overrunning clutch is adapted to be locked for a transmission of torque during normal driving. The rear axle drive housing is sprung from the frame by a pair of transversely aligned isolation mounts while the composite torque tube is resiliently secured by a bracket support adjacent its forward end.

  • Patent number: 4862755
Abstract: An improved power takeoff arrangement for a vehicle four-wheel drive transfer case having high, neutral and low positions. The transfer case input shaft has a integral gear member defining the sun gear of a dual planetary gear assembly having its carrier rings grounded to the transfer case housing. A planetary annulus gear, formed with an inboard axial extension concentrically surrounding the inboard carrier ring, is driven by dual planet pinion gear sets journally supported between the carrier rings. The annulus gear inboard extension is formed with external helical gear teeth adapted to mesh with a power takeoff input gear accessible through an aperture in the housing side wall. The arrangement enables power at a constant relative speed to be transferred from the transfer case input shaft to the power takeoff gear in any of its three positions while obviating unbalanced loading of the dual pinion planetary assembly.
