  • Patent number: 8189525
Abstract: A system and method for reducing an initial network entry and/or handover (INE/HO) Link Budget (LB) Bottleneck in a communications network, for example, a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) network described in the IEEE 802.16 specification, is arranged such that a Base Station (BS) may allocate bandwidth with repetition across at least two frames on Initial Network Entry/Handover (INE/HO) by a Mobile Station. By doing so, the BS may achieve increased system gain on INE, while reducing the number of subchannels conventionally associated with repetition, thereby reducing the system noise floor during INE/HO.

  • Patent number: 8185146
Abstract: A first wireless device associated with a first profile is communicated with using a first transmitted power. A second wireless device associated with a second profile is communicated with using a second transmitted power. A third transmitted power is determined. The third transmitted power is associated with the first wireless device receiving data using a target modulation and coding scheme. A maximum transmitted power is determined to be exceeded if the third transmitted power is used to communicate with the first wireless device. The second wireless device is communicated with using a fourth transmitted power. The fourth transmitted power allows the third transmitted power to be used to communicate with the first wireless device without exceeding the maximum transmitted power.

  • Patent number: 8121090
Abstract: A mobile communication device wirelessly transfers user communications to a first wireless base station. The mobile communication device identifies a second wireless base station that has sufficient performance characteristics for wireless communication with the mobile communication device and that has a higher communication priority than the first wireless base station. In response, the mobile communication device initiates a hand-off from the first wireless base station to the second wireless base station. In response to the hand-off, the mobile communication device stops the wireless transfer of the user communications to the first wireless base station and wirelessly transfers additional user communications to the second wireless base station.

  • Patent number: 8098748
Abstract: Systems and methods of testing a wireless network are provided. Simulated user data, spread across all user data sub-carriers of all sub-channels of a frequency band assigned for transmissions, is transmitted by a number of base stations surrounding a base station under test. The power level of the simulated user data is determined based on a selected network load. A mobile station receives signals from the base station under test and the number of base stations, and the interference caused by the simulated user data to the transmission from the base station under test is determined. When less than 100% loading is employed for testing, the sub-channels carrying the simulated user data can vary on a frame-by-frame basis.
