  • Patent number: 12164696
Abstract: In a general aspect, a motion detection system detects gestures (e.g., human gestures) and initiates actions in response to the detected gestures. In some aspects, channel information is obtained based on wireless signals transmitted through a space by one or more wireless communication devices. A gesture recognition engine analyzes the channel information to detect a gesture (e.g., a predetermined gesture sequence) in the space. An action to be initiated in response to the detected gesture is identified. An instruction to perform the action is sent to a network-connected device associated with the space.

  • Patent number: 12156096
Abstract: In a general aspect, a method is presented for detecting a location of motion using wireless signals that propagate along two or more paths of a wireless communication channel. The method includes storing a set of eigenvectors derived from first motion-sensing data associated with a first time frame. The first motion-sensing data is associated with a first motion-sensing topology of a wireless mesh network. The method also includes obtaining a motion vector based on wireless signals transmitted between access point nodes in the wireless mesh network during a second, subsequent time frame. The wireless mesh network operates in a second, distinct motion-sensing topology during the second time frame. The motion vector is compared with the respective eigen vectors, and a probability vector is generated based on the comparison. A location of the motion of the object during the second time frame is determined based on the probability vector.

Abstract: A method includes obtaining a set of motion indicator values associated with a time frame. The set of motion indicator values indicating motion detected from wireless links in a wireless communication network during the time frame. The method also includes generating a probability vector comprising values for the connected wireless communication devices and generating spatial coordinates for respective wireless communication devices. The spatial coordinates for each wireless communication device representing a location of the wireless communication device in space. The method also includes modifying the probability vector based on the spatial coordinates of each wireless communication device to generate a modified probability vector representing a probability of motion at the connected wireless communication device during the time frame. The method also includes using the modified probability vector to localize motion relative to the wireless communication device during the time frame.

  • Publication number: 20240372749
Abstract: In a general aspect, a set of observed frequency-domain channel responses is filtered to remove noise or distortions that are not related to changes in the physical environment. In some aspects, for each frequency-domain channel response, a time-domain channel response is generated based on the frequency-domain channel response; and a filtered time-domain channel response is generated based on a constraint applied to the time-domain channel response. Additionally, a reconstructed frequency-domain channel response is generated based on the filtered time-domain channel response. An error signal is also generated, and a determination is made as to whether the error signal satisfies a criterion. The error signal can be indicative of a difference between the frequency-domain channel response and the reconstructed frequency-domain channel response. In response to each of the error signals satisfying the criterion, motion of an object in a space is detected based on the set of frequency-domain channel responses.

  • Patent number: 12137396
Abstract: In a general aspect, a mobile wireless communication device is operated for motion sensing. In some aspects, wireless signals transmitted from a second wireless communication device through a space during a time period are received at a first wireless communication device. By operation of the first wireless communication device, channel state information is generated based on the wireless signals. Whether the first wireless communication device moved during the time period is detected. In response to detecting that the first wireless communication device moved relative to the second wireless communication device during the time period, motion sensing parameters of a motion sensing system are updated. The channel state information is processed according to the updated motion sensing parameters to detect motion of an object—other than the first wireless communication device—in the space during the time period.

  • Patent number: 12069543
Abstract: A method includes receiving, at a cloud-based computer system, motion data from a remote motion detection system configured to detect motion in a space. The motion data is derived from wireless signals communicated through the space by the wireless communication devices. A motion classifier is applied to the motion data by the cloud-based computer system to detect an occurrence of a first predefined motion event in the space. A subset of the third party entities that have registered for notifications associated with the first predefined motion event is identified based on reference to a database. Notifications are generated addressed to the subset of the third party entities. Each notification includes an indication that the first predefined motion event was detected and additional information describing the occurrence of the first predefined motion event. The notifications are then sent to the subset of the third party entities.

  • Patent number: 12052071
Abstract: In a general aspect, various fields of a PHY frame are used for motion detection. In some aspects, a first training field and a second, different training field are identified in a PHY frame of each wireless signal transmitted between wireless communication devices in a wireless communication network. A first time-domain channel estimate and a second time-domain channel estimate are generated for each wireless signal. The first time-domain channel estimate is based on a first frequency-domain signal included in the first training field, while the second time-domain channel estimate is based on a second frequency-domain signal included in the second training field. A determination is made whether motion has occurred in a space during the time period based on the first time-domain channel estimates, and a location of the motion within the space is determined based on the second time-domain channel estimates.

  • Patent number: 12019143
Abstract: In a general aspect, motion is detected in an environment using wireless signals. In one example, a downlink high-efficiency PHY (HE-PHY) frame is received. The downlink HE-PHY frame is transmitted by an access point device to wireless communication devices residing inside an environment. An uplink orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (UL-OFDMA) transmission is subsequently received in response to the downlink HE-PHY frame. The UL-OFDMA transmission is transmitted by the wireless communication devices to the access point device. The UL-OFDMA transmission includes uplink HE-PHY frames simultaneously transmitted on respective resource units by the respective wireless communication devices. A motion data set is generated based on channel responses computed from the uplink HE-PHY frames. Each channel response is computed from a respective one of the uplink HE-PHY frames. Motion within the environment is analyzed based on the motion data set.

Abstract: In a general aspect, a plurality of motion zones are identified in a motion detection system. Each of the plurality of motion zones represents a distinct region in a space associated with a wireless communication network, and at least a subset of the motion zones are associated with respective wireless communication devices in the wireless communication network. Motion-sensing data is generated based on first wireless signals transmitted during a first time period between pairs of wireless communication devices. The motion-sensing data represents motion in the space. A new motion zone is identified based on the motion-sensing data; the new motion zone is not associated with any of the wireless communication devices.
