Abstract: A method for promoting compliance with an oral hygiene regimen includes displaying, on a display device, a representation of at least a portion of a set of teeth of a user. The method also includes overlaying an indicium on the representation such that the indicium is associated with a first section of the representation. Responsive to a determination, via at least one of one or more processors, that a head of an oral hygiene device is positioned directly adjacent to a first section of the set of teeth that corresponds to the first section of the representation for at least a predetermined amount of time, the indicium is removed from the display device.
Abstract: Described herein are methods and systems for identifying a composition having anti-pathogenic activity; evaluating the anti-pathogenic activity of a composition; measuring the metabolic function of a pathogen; and/or comparing the anti-pathogenic performance of a plurality of compositions.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a personal care implement is disclosed. The personal care implement has an emitting end and an electromagnetic source for projecting electromagnetic radiation onto an area of skin to treat a skin condition. A light sensor is configured to sense an amount of ambient light present at the emitting end. A controller instructs the electromagnetic source to begin projecting only when the light sensor senses that the amount of ambient light at the emitting end is below a predefined threshold.

The one or more thickening agents may be configured to prevent the crystallization of the one or more fructans in the orally acceptable vehicle. The method may include contacting the orally acceptable vehicle, the fructans, and the thickening agents with one another to thereby prevent the crystallization of the fructans.
Abstract: Effervescent compositions for preparing home care products and methods for preparing the same are disclosed. The effervescent compositions may include an effervescent base, one or more surfactants, one or more solidifying agents, and one or more disintegrant agents. The effervescent base may include one or more alkali metal carbonates and one or more acids. The one or more alkali metal carbonates and the one or more acids may be present in a weight ratio of from about 1:1 to about 5:1. The effervescent composition may be substantially free of water. The effervescent composition may have a dissolution time of from about 6 min to about 12 min. The method for preparing the effervescent composition may include contacting the effervescent base, the surfactants, the solidifying agents, and the disintegrant agents with one another to prepare a mixture, which may be a homogenous mixture.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a personal care appliance includes an electric motor having a drive shaft. In response to a voltage signal, the drive shaft is oscillated in an oscillatory motion having an oscillation amplitude. A control circuit includes, in operable cooperation, a user interface, a processor, a pulse width modulation signal generator, and a power source. The control circuit supplies the voltage signal to the electric motor, the voltage signal having a frequency and a duty cycle. The control circuit varies the frequency and the duty cycle of the voltage signal in response to an oscillation adjustment input received from the user interface so that the oscillation amplitude of the drive shaft is varied along a substantially linear rate of change profile relative to the frequency.
Abstract: An oral treatment device and a method of using the same. The oral treatment device includes an intraoral mouthpiece configured for placement into a mouth of a user. The intraoral mouthpiece includes an arcuate wall having a front surface and a bite platform extending from the front surface. Furthermore, there is an alignment feature located on the bite platform to facilitate consistent positioning of the intraoral mouthpiece within the user's mouth in a repeatable manner. The alignment feature may have a top surface that is inclined upwardly moving in a direction away from the front surface of the arcuate wall. The intraoral mouthpiece may also include a color measurement sensor for obtaining a color measurement of a tooth of the user.

Abstract: An oral care refill head (300), the oral care refill head (300) may be detachably coupled to a handle (200). The handle (200) may include a stem (250) that is received within a connection cavity (326) of the oral care refill head (300). The stem (250) and the connection cavity (326) may have specific geometries and structures to ensure an adequate coupling therebetween. An oral care implement (100), the oral care implement (100) have a pressure sensing assembly, excessive pressure applied onto the oral care refill head (300) will cause the motor (140) and a motor chassis (401) to rock. As the motor chassis (401) rocks, a contact element (456) thereon will actuate a pressure actuator element (455). In response, a control unit (150) may initiate generation of a user perceptible signal to inform the user of the excess pressure.
