Patents Assigned to Columbia Machine, Inc.
  • Patent number: 6352236
Abstract: A mold box is flexibly mounted to a product forming machine having upper and lower vertically displaceable beams. A feed drawer dispenses concrete material into the mold box while a vibration system vertically vibrates the mold box while dampening horizontal vibration. The vibration system is driven by a single drive shaft that actuates first and second vibrator rods while at the same rotating a counter-weight in a counter-rotating direction. A set of alignment brackets lock the mold box into a predetermined aligned relationship while being mounted in the product forming machine. The bottom side of each mold box is mounted to the product forming machine in the same relative position to reduce machine readjustments. A set of telescoping legs hold the feed drawer assembly variable distances above the mold box. A unitized pallet feeder quickly moves pallets one at a time from an “on-deck” position to a “receiving” position underneath the mold box.

  • Patent number: 5939104
Abstract: A mold box assembly includes a rectangular mold box frame having a substantially vertical divider plate mounted on the frame and extended part-way into it from an the upper side of the frame. A pair of rectangular restrictor plates are disposed vertically in the mold box from side to side and extend to the same depth as the divider plate. Wet product mix is dropped onto the box and is thereafter compressed with a shoe assembly. The shoe assembly includes a pair of shoes that extend from one side of the mold box to the other and have a thickness that allows them to be interleaved with the restrictor plates. The shoes are lowered to the lower edge of the restrictor plates. Simultaneously, another shoe mounted on the head plate compresses product on the other side of the divider plate so a higher level thus forming a header block having a first lower height formed beneath the restrictor plates and a second higher height formed on the other side of the divider plate.

  • Patent number: 5866026
Abstract: A adjustable mold box assembly for forming molded concrete products includes a pair of opposed substantially parallel end plates joined at both ends by a pair of opposed substantially parallel mounting brackets. A selected plurality of partition plates extend between the end plates to define a plurality of cavities for forming molded products in accordance with the number and dimension of molded products desired. A slot is formed along the inside of each end plate substantially along the length thereof. Tabs which extend from opposing ends of each partition plate include a stud transversely mounted on the end plate using ring nuts. The opposing tabs and studs of each end plate are received in opposing end plate slots. End liners are bolted to the inside surface of each end plate over the studs on each side of each partition plate with the ring nuts bearing against the surface of the end liner.

  • Patent number: 5292221
Abstract: Apparatus for moving a plurality of pallets loaded with building block and being supported in a vertical stack in parallel relation to one another. Uncured molded block is supported on pallets which are serially advanced on a conveyor toward an unloader. Pallets are arranged in a vertical stack for engagement with an unloader spade assembly having a plurality of laterally extending spades one above the other. The spades are constructed to support and lift the pallets when each is positioned under a corresponding pallet and the spade assembly is shifted upwardly. A transfer carriage is mounted on a track above the spade assembly for lateral shifting movement with the spade assembly being suspended therefrom. A pivot shaft is mounted on the transfer carriage for pivoting about a vertical axis and includes a driving end connected to the spade assembly for pivoting the spade assembly about the axis. Rollers are mounted on the transfer carriage.

  • Patent number: 5219591
Abstract: Apparatus for continuously forming concrete blocks or pavers comprises a frame for defining a supporting structure with a mold box flexibly mounted thereon, the mold box having internal cavities contoured to define preselected block patterns, wherein a feed device for receiving concrete material is operable for selective positioning over an upper surface of the mold box for investing concrete material into the cavities. First and second sets of vibrators are mounted, respectively, generally at opposite ends of the mold box means and are operable for being selectively driven by associated first and second power drives. The first and second power drives are selectively operable for synchronizing or independently actuated the first and second sets of vibrators, respectively, so that concrete material invested into the cavities of the mold box may be vibrated so that the concrete material is evenly distributed in substantially equal masses throughout the cavities in the mold box.

  • Patent number: 5118243
Abstract: A frame includes a plate mounted thereon for driving movement along the frame. A captive pallet having a load thereon is staged onto the frame. The plate drives into an edge of the captive pallet thus driving the pallet from beneath the load and shifting the load to the plate. Continued plate movement transfers the load onto a shipping pallet beneath the plate. When the captive pallet includes a slip sheet, a gripping jaw holds the sheet while the plate drives the captive pallet from beneath the sheet thus providing transfer to a shipping pallet, or to the slip sheet only, in which the sides of the load are not touched.
