Patent number: 8418219Abstract: A method and apparatus for simultaneously testing multiple set-top boxes uses a test equipment structure or frame for receiving a known good set-top box and a plurality of set-top boxes to be tested against a known good set-top box. A movable shelf structure is provided for electrically connecting at least each set-top box to be tested by a single sliding motion. Connectors on a backplane are made moveable to adjust for slight variations in the position of the connectors on the set-top boxes. An infrared control system generates an infrared signal to transmit to each set-top box and other related equipment in the testing operation such as televisions and receivers such that the function of each set-top box and related equipment is the same at each instant. Analyzing equipment is provided to analyze at least the audio output of each set-top box being tested at a selected channel and compared to the audio output of the known good set-top box.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2009Date of Patent: April 9, 2013Assignee: Communications Test Design, Inc.Inventors: Gerald J. Patent number: 5379229Abstract: An automated system for storing and retrieving objects from multiple object categories. A plurality of storage rack assemblies is included. Each storage rack assembly has a plurality of slots sized for storing objects. A storage transport is movable alongside each respective storage rack assembly for positioning adjacent any slot. A plurality of horizontal tracks are arranged to be perpendicular to the storage rack assemblies. Each storage rack assembly has an end adjacent the tracks. A runner transport is coupled to and movable on each track for receiving one of the objects from, or providing one of the objects to a storage transport. Two conveyor rack assemblies are located at opposite ends of the tracks, aligned perpendicularly to the track. Conveyor transports are adjacent the conveyor rack assemblies for transferring objects between the conveyor rack assembly and the runner transports.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1992Date of Patent: January 3, 1995Assignee: Communications Test Design, Inc.Inventors: Donald F. Patent number: 5029290Abstract: An alarm system suitable for use in a telecommunications network in which a central switching system is capable of selectively providing a signal of a predetermined polarity to a plurality of remotely located stations without being dependent upon or impeding the ability of the central switching system to process relatively high volume communications traffic. Each of the remote stations is connected to the telecommunications network by an electrical conduction path. The stations are substantially unresponsive to the predetermined polarity signal. In response to an alarm indication signal, the system effects a reversal in the polarity of the signal provided to a selected subset of the remote stations. Each station in the selected subset responds to the polarity reversal by indicating an alarm condition.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1990Date of Patent: July 2, 1991Assignee: Communications Test Design, Inc.Inventors: Donald F. Parsons, Brian D. Greenwald, John J. McGrath, Michael Dudek, Leo D. Parsons

Patent number: 5005197Abstract: A telephone line card tester operates by transmitting test data to the digital port of a telephone line interface card, and by subsequently receiving the data which is transmitted from this card through the same digital port. Once received, the data pattern is compared with an expected data pattern. A difference between the received data and the expected data is indicative of a defect in the telephone line interface card. To meet telephone line interface card timing consideration, the transmission of data to the interface card and the analysis of data received from the card are performed by separate subsystems. To accomplish this task, the telephone line interface card is tested in a test fixture which includes a digital line interface card tester, and a communications test set. The communications test set is used for such functions as ring generation and line simulation.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1989Date of Patent: April 2, 1991Assignee: Communications Test Design, Inc.Inventors: Gerald J. Parsons, Brian D. Greenwald, John J. McGrath, Stephen W. Andrasko

Patent number: 4741017Abstract: A plurality of control channel units in a telephone channel bank which communicate with other control channel units through a trunk line connection are serviced by a system which monitors data transmission consisting of coded commands and responses. These commands are transmitted to and response received from the channel units. A central control which provides the commands in coded characters which in the described embodiment are hexadecimal numbers. The monitoring system receives the data of the coded characters and analyzes and stores the data in memory. The data stored is thus analyzed for abnormal or erroneous conditions or status. When such condition or status or other failure occurs it is detected, the circumstances of the occurrence are reviewed and reported in a print-out on a printer. And also the report may be displayed on a screen. Thus, the report of the failure is accompanied by an evaluation of the failing channel.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1986Date of Patent: April 26, 1988Assignee: Communications Test Design, Inc.Inventors: Gerald J. Patent number: 4692939Abstract: Switches of telephone grids are tested for delayed action subsequent to, but within a number of milliseconds after, actuating the opening or closing of the switches. Excessive delay indicates approaching failure.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1986Date of Patent: September 8, 1987Assignee: Communications Test Design, Inc.Inventor: Donald F. Parsons

Patent number: 4670897Abstract: Multiple electrical path assembly as in a telephone grid, is rapidly and accurately checked by grounding one end of all but one of the path conductors, applying a test signal to that one end, detecting the presence or absence of signal on both ends of all conductors, and repeating the procedure for all the conductors, as with a computer containing a microprocessor. Where the conductors are individually switched, they can all be switched on beforehand. Detectors can also be connected to the conductors during the testing, to detect unusually high voltages, and testing can be interrupted when such voltages are detected. Switch actuation can be separately tested by detecting the passage of current that is used to actuate them.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1985Date of Patent: June 2, 1987Assignee: Communications Test Design, Inc.Inventors: Donald F. Parsons, Gerald J. Parsons, Brian D. Greenwald, Elizabeth A. Forsythe
