The insurance claims processing software provides the user with an estimated value for a user specified insurance claim. An insurance claims processing software user uses a table of contents (TOC) display screen to display the steps associated with the processing of the insurance claim. The user selects any intermediary step from a structured list of steps, included in the table of contents, to view a display screen associated with the selected intermediary step and to provide user inputs. The structured list of steps, included in the table of contents, is dynamically and automatically updated in response to business rules and/or user inputs. As a final step, the insurance claims processing software displays the estimated value for the specified insurance claim.

Abstract: A method and system for externalization of formulas for assessing bodily injury general damages. An insurance company may use an expert system to develop a knowledge base in the form of business rules and formulas to process insurance claims. The business rules may execute the formulas to assist an insurance claims adjuster in assessing bodily injury general damages. The task of creation and maintenance of the formulas, used in calculating a trauma severity value, may be automated by the externalization of formulas. The user may create a formula data table and use a translator program to create a static instance of a formula class of objects for each row in the formula data table. The business rules may invoke the calculate method to execute the formulas. Changing the data stored in the formula data table and using the translator program to create a static instance of a formulas class of objects for each row, may accomplish updating and/or customizing the formulas.

Abstract: An Internet-enabled method and system for processing insurance claims. The system may include an insurance claim processing server which is configured to estimate a value of an insurance claim as a function of insurance claim assessment data entered by a user during an insurance claim consultation session. The insurance claim assessment data may include one or more bodily injuries and one or more treatments of the bodily injuries. The insurance claim processing server may include a rules engine and a web server which may be executable to generate and send to a client computer system a plurality of web pages comprising insurance claim assessment questions. The client computer system may be coupled to the insurance claim processing server through a network such as the Internet. The client, including a web browser, may be operable to receive the insurance claim assessment data entered by the user and send the insurance claim assessment data across the network to the insurance claim processing server.

The messages associated with the processing of insurance claims are primarily used to obtain inputs from the user of the claims processing computer system. Messages, which are typically displayed on a display screen, may include questions, answers, errors, warnings, and other text used with interactive claims processing. The messages are stored as message codes along with a corresponding message text in a messages table. The database, which includes the messages table is the repository and the lookup system for the message codes and the corresponding message texts. Each message code has a corresponding customizable message text, which may be specified at installation time. The application program requests display of specific messages by referring to its message code. The application program, thus, remains unaffected to changes in the corresponding customizable message texts.

Dynamic database packageset software may provide functionality to isolate the FSO application program source code from changes to the FSO database. A dynamic database packageset switching table may include user defined keys and their associated database identifier values. The dynamic database packageset switching software may provide functionality to build a key, in real-time with a pre-defined structure, based on application program parameter values, use the key to access the dynamic database packageset switching table to locate an associated database identifier and access an FSO database using the database identifier to retrieve requested FSO data.

Abstract: An improved method and system for configuring components of a reinsurance contract to process reinsurance business transactions. Reinsurance users may use the improved method and system for configuring a multi-dimensional reinsurance contract to process reinsurance business transactions with increased customization, re-use of existing functionality and decreased development time. An object-oriented, multi-dimensional reinsurance contract framework may represent a reinsurance contract. An object-oriented condition component framework may represent a condition dimension of a reinsurance contract. The condition component framework may permit the addition and/or modification of condition components of the reinsurance contract. These components may comprise, for example, configuring or changing the premium limits, consolidation conditions, and other conditions for a reinsurance contract. The condition components may be implemented as reusable objects.

The insurance claims processing system may display information from a located help table in order of relevance. A search interface may also be provided by the insurance claims processing system.

Abstract: A method and system for automating data exchange processing by using event-triggered transaction processing. Transaction data may be exchanged electronically with industry clearinghouses or in-house administration systems. A trading relationship between trading partners is stored in a trading relationship database. At least one trading partner is a sending trading partner and at least one trading partner is a receiving trading partner with respect to a transaction between the sender and receiver. Maps and rules may be created and stored with respect to transactions and/or trading partners. An incoming transaction is received through an industry clearinghouse from the at least one sending partner as identified in the trading relationship. In response to receiving the incoming transaction, additional information is read from an administration system specified by a map in order to complete the processing of the transaction.

A format of the data request may be assessed. The assessed format may be a sequential access data format, a direct access data format, or a relational data format. If the assessed format of the data request is in the sequential access data format or the direct access data format, the data request may be translated into a relational data format. A relational database architecture may process the data request. A result to the data request may be returned. The result may be returned in the assessed format of the data request.

Abstract: A system and method for processing patterns that provides technological implementation details of an enterprise application within the context of a public-sector enterprise reference model framework. A system is disclosed that includes: an architecture product library having patterns that define reusable assets for use in modeling enterprise applications; a framework integration system that defines a subset of patterns from the architecture product library for a predefined enterprise reference model framework; and a system for modeling an enterprise application within the context of the predefined enterprise reference model framework by using patterns selected from the subset of patterns.

A method may include providing a document to a computer system. In an embodiment, the method may further include assessing whether writing in an information field approximately matches a writing profile representation from at least one information field from at least one other document. In certain embodiments, the matching writing profile representation may be associated with a corresponding text representation in a computer processable format in memory on the computer system. In some embodiments, the information field may be associated with the text representation corresponding to the matching writing profile representation.

Abstract: An improved synchronization system and method for copies of data in a computer system. The computer system comprises a cluster, wherein each computer in the cluster may store a local copy of a data set along with a validity flag for the local copy. The computer system further comprises a coupling system which is connected to each of the computers in the cluster through a coupling system interface program, wherein the coupling system is configured to coordinate the data sharing and workload of the cluster. The computer system also comprises an external data storage shared by the computers in the cluster. One of the computers may read a first copy of the data set from a primary data set on the external data storage. The computer may then store the first copy locally and set a first validity flag to indicate that the first copy is valid. Another computer, server, or application program may make a second copy of the primary data set and set a second validity flag to valid.

Abstract: An improved method and system for providing context-sensitive help and interactive search capability in an insurance claims processing system. A help information database may include one or more index tables, one or more header tables and one or more text tables. In one embodiment, the context-sensitive help for a step in processing an insurance claim may be automatically invoked when entering the step. Alternatively, the user may interactively invoke context-sensitive help once the step is displayed. The insurance claims processing system may search one or more index tables for entries including a page ID and/or codes from one or more elements of the page. The insurance claims processing system may locate one or more entries in the one or more index tables and then locate entries in the one or more help tables using information from the entries located in the one or more index tables.

Abstract: A laser weapon cartridge for disabling and/or destroying a target is disclosed. In an embodiment, the laser weapon cartridge may be compatible within a ballistic gun. For example, the laser weapon cartridge may be placed in the breech of a gun and armed by the gun's firing device. The laser weapon cartridge may assess precise alignment of the optical axis of the laser with a target. Precise alignment maybe based on RF energy from the target. RF energy may be detected by an antenna array coupled to the laser weapon cartridge. When alignment of the target with the laser is detected, the laser weapon cartridge may fire a beam of laser light toward the target. In an embodiment, the laser light may be generated by a chemical laser.

Abstract: An improved method and system for providing context-sensitive help and interactive search capability in an insurance claims processing system. A help information database may include one or more index tables, one or more header tables and one or more text tables. The insurance claims processing system may display information from located help table entries in order of relevance. In one embodiment, entries in the index table may include a relevance value for the occurrence of the term in the help database. In one embodiment, the relevance values for the entries in the index table may be calculated and stored in the index table prior to a user accessing the help database. In another embodiment, the relevance value for an entry in the index table may be calculated dynamically when the entry is identified as an occurrence of a search term or of a step or step element code in context-sensitive help.
