Abstract: A machine for forming a corrugated package from sheet material including a rotatable corrugation head having a fluted periphery and a front face; corrugating means and sealing means movable into association with the head for corrugating an inner sheet material and sealing two plys of material together, respectively; means for feeding an inner sheet having a selected length and width to the head adjacent said corrugating means and means for feeding an outer sheet having a selected length and width to the head adjacent the sealing means; means for moving a bottom wall member having a selected shape into engagement with the front face of the head and associated with the first and second sheets to form the bottom wall of the package; and means to control the operation of said machine so that the rotation of said head and the function of the above-described components are coordinated to form a corrugated side wall of the package from two sheets simultaneously with the joinder of said side wall with the bottom wall

Abstract: An improved assembly for facilitating the closing of an end portion of a tubular hosiery blank positioned upon a support assembly includes a tubular unit having a metallic hollow core provided with a molded urethane coating covering the outer portion of the core, and having diametrically opposed urethane fins defining guide slots for supporting and freely slidably receiving therein reciprocable blades. The radially extending urethane fins are tapered outwardly and extend substantially the full length of the core member.

Abstract: A system for automatically closing the toe portions of tubular hosiery blanks includes an automatic loader assembly for receiving, supporting and spreading open an end portion of a hosiery blank, for transporting the blank to a toe closing machine, and for carrying the opened end of the blank over a loading tube of a toe closing machine while everting the blank.

Abstract: A lightweight container having a readily removable corrugated sidewall. The inner ply of the sidewall is a corrugated sheet having a selected length and width. A bottom wall member is positioned adjacent the lower axial edge of the inner sheet. A flat outer sheet, of selected length and a width greater than the width of the corrugated inner sheet, is joined to the inner sheet to define the outer ply of the sidewall. The outer sheet projects beyond the lower edge of the inner sheet and is folded against and secured to the bottom wall member, to thereby restrain movement of the bottom wall member. A frangible joint is defined along which the sidewall can be severed from the bottom wall without severing the corrugated inner wall, so that the inner wall adds rigidity without interfering with the ready removal of the sidewall. In the preferred arrangement, the adjacent ends of the inner sheet are in a substantially abutting and unsealed relationship to assist in the opening of the container.

Abstract: A lightweight, portable apparatus for rapidly reading continuously and sequentially a plurality of ticket records having specific data encoded thereon as the tickets are removed individually from a supply magazine and conveyed along a prescribed path by a ticket feed assembly, an escapement assembly and a transport drive wheel to a ticket data sensing station. Data encoded on each advancing ticket is read in timed relation with displacement of a ticket advancing through the apparatus by control means and transmitted to equipment for storing and/or reproducing of the data in another form.

Abstract: A portable, compact, unitized device for transferring articles by pneumatic means from a processing machine to a collection receptacle includes a chamber divided into two compartments by a perforated plate, and having a releasable closure cap at one end and a trap door at the opposite end. A port in one compartment is coupled to a vacuum source, and a work inlet port in the other compartment communicates with a work processing means. An actuator, completely encompassed within one compartment and mounted upon the releasable closure, includes a shutter moveable axially of the vaccum source port for controlling air flow through the compartments.

Abstract: A system for automatically bending wire into arcuate segments of different selected configurations utilizing a wire bending roll displaceable selectively by a stepping motor which is controlled by a microprocessor to bend a length of wire conforming to data retrieved from a computer. The wire is selectively advanced to a shear assembly where it is severed to a specific length and advanced through feed rolls towards the bending roll. Detection of the advancing severed length of wire locks in a strobe gear and the microprocessor with the stepping motor to determine the position of the wire with respect to the bending roll and to incrementally displace the bending roll in a controlled manner along an arcuate path to produce the desired bend in the wire.

Abstract: This invention relates to the discovery that chemicals existing in natural waters, which have been pretreated in municipal water treatment facilities, as well as natural surface and underground waters which have not been so pretreated, do inhibit the biocidal effect of known water disinfectants of the metallic ion type. This may be overcome by exchanging for the halide ions in such water an anion, such as bicarbonates, which does not inhibit the biocidal effect of metallic ions, nor does it react chemically with known oxidizing biocides to form halogenated organics which are suspected of causing cancer. Further, water treated in accordance with this invention substantially maintains its original ionic character to maintain the water in a natural state, for example, not deionized.

Abstract: An apparatus for use in a liquid supply system having an inline liquid processor or purifier and which supplies liquid continuously or intermittently to an appliance or other point of use. The apparatus includes a valve structure which normally directs the flow of liquid through a pipe connected to the processor or purifier where impurities are removed before the liquid flows to the appliance and, when a predetermined quantity of liquid has passed through the valve structure, the flow of liquid to the processor is interrupted and the liquid is directed through a bypass pipe which is connected directly to the appliance.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a separable coupling for connecting a suction hose to a vacuum cleaner and at the same time establishing an electric circuit between conductors in the hose and in the cleaner and involves means for preventing short circuits in the coupling even though the latter may suffer a mechanical damage.
