  • Patent number: 9132837
Abstract: A system for estimating the lane width and/or the number of lanes on a roadway includes environmental sensors mounted on a vehicle to monitor respective detection areas behind and to the sides of the vehicle. The sensors detect a roadway edge and the system determines a distance to the roadway edge. The system further determines a value or accesses a predefined nominal value of a lane width, and then estimates the number of lanes by evaluating the roadway edge distance with reference to the lane width value.

Abstract: A method for actuating a controllable semiconductor switch by switching the switch on an off in phases in a controlled manner using a control signal is disclosed. The method includes starting a time measurement at the beginning of at least one phase of the phase-wise on-and-off switching procedure to ascertain a time duration, wherein the time measurement is continued until a phase following the at least one phase of the phase-wise on-and-off switching procedure begins. The ascertained time duration is compared with a specified maximal time duration. If the ascertained time duration exceeds the specified maximal time duration, the semiconductor switch is actuated such that the semiconductor switch is switched into a specified operating state.

  • Patent number: 8953842
Abstract: For recognizing road signs, a camera captures image data of the surroundings of a vehicle. The image data are analyzed to determine a region that contains a potential road sign. The image region is evaluated by a first classification unit to identify a road sign belonging to a particular class based on a recognized class-specific feature. Then, the brightness or color intensity of at least a portion of the road sign is analyzed along radially extending scanning beams, to determine potential contour points of an information-bearing part of the road sign, which is then extracted and semantically interpreted in a second classification unit to determine the information content thereof.

  • Patent number: 8924179
Abstract: An assembly and a method determine the angular position of a rotating machine by way of an inductive sensor. From the excitation signal for a primary winding of a sensor and voltages induced in the two secondary windings of the sensor, three more signals are derived using phase shifters and polarity sign determination units. The six signals in total are sampled using a sample and hold sampling unit and provided to a processor for evaluation, which then calculates the current angular position of the rotating machine at the sampling time.
