    Abstract: Methods of making hose fittings include providing a stem having a fluid conduit, a first end, a second end with a raised shoulder, and a crimp region disposed between the first end and the second end. A swivel tube nut is placed over the stem, and the swivel tube nut is retained on the stem the by the raised shoulder. A ferrule is thereafter placed over the first end of the stem, and the ferrule comprises a partially or fully formed octagonal wrench surface, formed prior to. The ferrule is then crimped, at the octagonal wrench surface, onto the crimp region of the stem.

    Abstract: A hose includes an inner tube containing a blend of chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) with ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM), from 5 phr to 15 phr of a branched plasticizer, from 10 phr to 30 phr carbon black, from 30 phr to 60 phr mineral filling, and a peroxide curing agent. The hose defines an inner conduit. A reinforcement layer is disposed outwardly adjacent the inner tube, and an outer cover disposed outwardly adjacent the reinforcement layer. Upon and after curing, the inner tube at least meets methyl borate resistance, acetone resistance and pentane resistance requirements of Australian Standard AS1335. In some aspects, after curing the inner tube exceeds the methyl borate resistance, acetone resistance and pentane resistance requirements of the Australian Standard AS1335. Also, after curing, the hose at least meets flame resistance requirements of the Australian Standard AS1335.

    Abstract: A composition includes at least one natural or synthetic rubber material, a severely hydrotreated naphthenic distillate incorporated in amount equal to or less than 30% by weight of the composition, and a sulfur curative. After curing, the composition provides acceptable cold flexibility at a temperature lower than ?60 deg C., at a temperature as low as ?68 deg C., or even at a temperature as low as ?73 deg C. In some aspects, the at least one natural or synthetic rubber material is a synthetic rubber such as, but not limited to, an ethylenepropylene-diene copolymer rubber. In some cases, where used, the ethylenepropylene-diene copolymer rubber is selected from the group consisting of ethylene-propylene-cyclopentadiene terpolymer, ethylene-propylene ethylidene norbornene terpolymer, ethylene-propylene-I, and mixtures thereof.

The fitting also has a metallic wave spring washer disposed upon the stem between the stem shoulder and the swivel nut end, and a ferrule for securing a hose to the hose fitting at the ridged axial portion of the stem. In some cases, an inner fitting is disposed in the conduit at the opposing axial portion of the stem, and an inner hose may be in the conduit and attached to the inner fitting.

The inner tube has a tube wall thickness (t) of between about 0.5 mm to about 1.5 mm, and the plurality of rod shaped particles is incorporated in an amount of 10% or less by weight. The hose further includes a tie layer directly surrounding the inner tube, a first reinforcement layer surrounding the tie layer, and at least a second reinforcement layer surrounding the first reinforcement layer. An interlayer is interposed between the first and the second reinforcement layer, and the interlayer bonds the first reinforcement layer to the second reinforcement layer. An outside cover surrounds the second reinforcement layer, as well as any additional layers.

The exterior portion of the fitting has an annular-shaped bubble portion between the first and second circumferential crimped portions. The bubble portion has a diameter larger than diameters of the first and second circumferential crimped portions, and the hose has a portion radially expanded into an annular-shaped cavity surrounded by the bubble portion as the hose is compressed at the first and second portions thereof.

The non-metal bushing may be formed of a castable polymer material, which may optionally include ultra-high molecular weight powder. The sulfur cured rubber formulation may include a sulfur curative in an amount of from about 1.0 phr to about 4.0 phr. The sulfur cured rubber formulation may exhibits no cracking under dynamic ozone testing conditions of 50 pphm ozone, 25% strain, and 40 deg C., at 168 hours, in accordance with ASTM D1149, and may have a rolling resistance factor value of from 0.05 to 0.06 at a temperature of 25 deg C.
