  • Patent number: 6481457
Abstract: A high pressure flow line that is formed from sections of pipe that are coupled together is provided with a safety restraint assembly. The safety restraint assembly is formed by wrapping short, flexible rib tethers around the pipeline near the ends of each section of pipe. A plurality of long tethers are linked end-to-end to form a continuous spine, which is threaded through all of the rib tethers. Each of the tethers contains continuous filaments. The spine is then anchored at each of its terminal ends to suitable anchoring structures. Alternatively, the safety restraint assembly may utilize anchor elements in addition to the tethers.

  • Patent number: 6481409
Abstract: An electro-hydraulic control module for deactivating and reactivating intake and exhaust valves in an internal combustion engine comprising a series of stacked plates that form hydraulic valves, manifolding for supply, control and exhaust hydraulic flow and supports electromagnetic solenoids for activating the hydraulic valves. The plate structure is economical to manufacture and is advantageously small in vertical size. A bleed circuit keeps the hydraulic system relatively free of air to achieve fast, reliable and repeatable performance.

  • Publication number: 20020166587
Abstract: An apparatus for diverting condensate which forms inside an exhaust system. The exhaust system comprises an exhaust side in which condensate may be formed, a suction side, and an exhaust fan between the exhaust side and the suction side and coupled to each of the exhaust side and the suction side to form a conduit through which gaseous fluid may be conveyed. A hollow tube having a first open end and a second open end is provided. The first end is coupled to the exhaust side and the second end is coupled to the suction side so that the hollow tube communicates between the exhaust side and the suction side in a manner bypassing the exhaust fan. A means exists inside the exhaust side for diverting condensate away from the exhaust fan apparatus. The means is positioned to channel condensate into the first open end of the hollow tube.

  • Patent number: 6478100
Abstract: A hybrid electric vehicle (10) includes an internal combustion engine (12) which drives a generator (20) to produce electrical energy for a traction motor (44) of the vehicle. The generator (20) is provided with a cooling air intake port (20i). A air mover or compressor (30) is driven from the engine (12) or from an auxiliary motor (84), to produce air under positive pressure. The air from the air mover (30) is coupled by air paths (60, 62, 64) to the cooling air input port (20i) of the generator (20) and to the combustion air aspiration or input port (16) of the engine (12). If the air mover serves the purpose of cooling the generator (20) and, if a non-positive-displacement pump, also provides an effect similar to turbocharging, and if a positive-displacement type, supercharges the engine (12).

  • Patent number: 6465914
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for power removal from a control circuit of an application circuit where that application circuit, as a result of a triggering event, can create damaging noise in the control circuit, a power supply is provided for the control circuit. Power is supplied from the power supply to the control circuit until initiation of the triggering event. Upon initiation of the triggering event, power flow is stopped to the control circuit for a predetermined time delay sufficient so that after the triggering event has ceased, transient noises which may still be present after the triggering event do not harm the control circuit or produce incorrect operation. At the end of the time delay, power is reconnected to the control circuit. Preferably, the control circuit is a microcontroller connecting to an ignition circuit for firing a gas chamber in a gas powered fastener gun.

  • Patent number: 6463483
Abstract: A computing or processing system including a microprocessor and a memory coupled together by a local bus, and also includes a north bridge providing translation to a PCI or other standard bus. The system also includes a device bus, which may or may not be coupled to the PCI bus by a south bridge. A device bus interface bypasses the north and south bridges, to provide a single-step interface to the device bus. This reduces the latency.

  • Publication number: 20020135748
Abstract: A laser diode (22) emits laser light which is collimated into parallel rays with a collimating lens (24). The collimated beams travel about 5 to 50 cm before being reflected back to an adjustable mirror (28), to a fixed mirror (30), and then on to a photoreceiver (34). The adjustable mirror (28) is pivoted by turning an adjusting screw (40). The adjustable mirror (28) has a toothed cam (48) on its backside that mate with the threads of the adjusting screw (40). When the adjusting screw (40) is turned, it forces the cam to move with it, thus changing the angle of the adjustable mirror (28). A ball lens (32) focuses the reflected light onto the photoreceiver (34). The photoreceiver (34) and laser diode (22) are synchronized so that the receiver (34) can only receive light during appropriate windows of time corresponding to when the laser light was emitted.

  • Patent number: 6439923
Abstract: A universal wiring harness that is capable of providing electrical connections to the various electrical components contained within a variety of vehicular automatic transmissions includes a plurality of electrical conductors that are supported on a relatively rigid support bracket that is shaped in accordance with the basic structure of the transmission such that the electrical conductors are generally directed toward the locations of the various electrical components. The electrical conductors are preferably covered with an electrical insulator that is formed from polytetraflouoroethylene because it provides enhanced resistance to degradation from chemical exposure, heat, penetration (such as from abrasion or cutting), and color fading. A plurality of terminals and connectors are connected to the ends of the electrical conductors so as to facilitate the connections to the various electrical components of the electronic control system.
