  • Patent number: 8903980
Abstract: An environment variable for use cases such as UPnP AV use cases. The environment variable of the present invention is used to store the physical location of the user. For example, the environment variable can be used to identify a particular location as being a user's living room, kitchen, etc. The information stored in the environment variable can be used to enhance the user experience of the digital home or other environment by minimizing the number of manual selections that the user has to make in order to initiate a use case such as playing music in a bedroom or watching movies in a living room. The environment variable is used to trigger a change of a profile and select the devices needed to implement different use scenarios.

Abstract: The exemplary embodiments of this invention generally relate to message header-type notification that, for example, enables the co-existence of a legacy header type with one or more new header types on a same radio link. In one non-limiting, exemplary embodiment, a method includes: determining a type of medium access control (MAC) header to transmit in a MAC transmission; setting a value of a notification field in a resource allocation message based on the determined type of MAC header; and transmitting the resource allocation message. In another non-limiting, exemplary embodiment, a method includes: receiving a resource allocation message having a notification field; and using a value of the notification field to determine a type of medium access control (MAC) header for a MAC transmission.

  • Patent number: 8886824
Abstract: A method (and corresponding equipment) by which a multimedia message is sent from a sending terminal (21) via a messaging server (22)—such as a MMS Proxy-Relay in MMS or a SIP proxy server in SIP IM—to a receiving terminal (25) having limited multimedia capabilities, with the sending terminal (21) adapted to include a user agent (21a) for inserting, into the message, media characteristics of the message sufficient in detail to enable the messaging server (22) to determine whether the message should be transcoded based on actual or assumed multimedia capabilities of the receiving terminal (25), and with the messaging server (22) configured to read the media characteristics and decide whether the message should be transcoded based only on the inserted media characteristics and on actual or assumed multimedia capabilities of the receiving terminal (25). The media characteristics are advantageously inserted into the header of the message.

  • Patent number: 8881204
Abstract: A system for providing devices such as WCDs, televisions, stereos, video game systems, etc. access to media content through an entity such as a web server. In accordance with at least one embodiment, UPnP or DLNA compliant devices may utilize a user's home network to access a user's media library from on an online media service. The media service may provide a user interface to the device to enable the user to access his media library. The media may be stored on a networked storage device connected to the media service, on the user's network devices, on the user's WCD, etc. The media service may automatically query the user's WCD to determine the presence of other persons in his proximity, and determine their preferences. A customized media stream that is suitable for the whole group may be generated based at least in part on the combined preferences of the group.

  • Publication number: 20140321404
Abstract: In order to reduce the HS-SCCH overhead, a fixed time allocation approach could be used. In that case, the scheduling time of each VoIP user is semi-static and thus there is no need to transmit e.g. HS-SCCH toward the UE for the initial transmissions, if the UE knows when to receive data on the HS-DSCH and what transport format is used. There are at least two ways of implementing this: 1) HS-SCCH/E-DPCCH signalling to indicate parameters of a first transmission, with subsequent transmissions using the same parameters (and HS-SCCH/E-DPCCH always sent when changes needed), or 2) fixed allocation, RRC signalling used to allocate users and tell the default transport parameters.

  • Patent number: 8874691
Abstract: A method of circumventing network obstacles to provide a peer-to-peer communication channel between peers utilizing hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) includes communicating a HTTP request from a peer device to a relay through a network including an obstacle where the HTTP request is intended for another peer device. The method further includes communicating a HTTP response from the relay to the peer device and establishing a communication channel between the peer device and the another peer device via the relay. The communication channel permits the peer device and the another peer device to send and receive data.

  • Patent number: 8869003
Abstract: The invention relates to low density parity check decoding. A method for decoding an encoded data block is described. Encoded data block comprising data sub-blocks are stored. Decoding is performed in a pipelined manner using an irregular, block-structured parity check matrix, where at least two data sub-block matrices of the parity check matrix are read from and written in each of a plurality of clock cycles. The reading and writing of the data sub-blocks is evenly distributed between at least two area of a memory. The decoding is performed with shift values which eliminate cycles at or below a predetermined threshold length. An apparatus, computer program product and device are also described.

  • Publication number: 20140301399
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for providing a network element 5 of a communications network with data, in particular HSDPA related data. In order to enable the transmission of user data, it is proposed that a controller 4 of the network uses a dedicated frame structure for assembling frames with said user data. The frames can then be transmitted from the controller 4 via an interface to the network element 5. In order to enable the transmission of control parameters, it is further proposed that an interface application protocol is employed which allows the controller 4 to add control parameters to control messages transmitted from the controller 4 to a network element 5 via the interface.

  • Patent number: 8842199
Abstract: A system and method for automatically determine whether an image captured by a digital camera should be stored in a raw format or a compressed format. After an image is captured by the digital camera, the digital camera checks certain sets of characteristics of the captured image to check the image quality. If the image quality falls within an acceptable range, then the digital camera saves the image in a compressed format. If the captured image does not fall within predetermined quality levels, then the captured image is save in raw format for later processing.

Abstract: A system and a method for minimizing the functionality-gap between JAVA™ and native platforms while keeping the impact on each JAVA™ API static footprint as small as possible. A JAVA™ Runtime Dynamic Invocation API is used for low-level bridging between JAVA™ and C/C++, enabling the dynamic invocation of native C/C++ functions and C++ class/object methods from the JAVA™ side without adding any additional ad hoc implemented native code to the overall JAVA™ component implementation. Thereby, the need to write new native code when implementing a JAVA™ component that needs to invoke some native functionality is reduced.
