The non-linear tone mapping apparatus according to the present invention comprises a luminance value computing unit for computing a luminance value of each pixel of an object image using an image information of each pixel; a computing unit for computing a light adaptive value of each pixel using the image information and luminance value of each pixel, the light adaptive value representing the degree of response to brightness of the image in the image information of each pixel; and a converting unit for converting the image information of each pixel of the object image using a ratio of the image information of each pixel to the light adaptive value.
Abstract: A method to control cell selection and/or re-selection in a communication system comprising a plurality of cells with which terminal devices may communicate, the method including the steps of: determining that a terminal device is to start a session for a certain service, the service using a reception frequency; based on that determination, changing at least one cell selection and/or re-selection parameter in respect of the terminal device with the effect that a subsequent cell selection and/or re-selection performed by the device would favor cells that use the reception frequency used in the service session over other cells.

Abstract: An extendable/retractable ladder assembly includes a first stile and a second stile and a plurality of rungs extending therebetween. Each stile may comprise a plurality of columns disposed in a nested arrangement for relative axial movement in a telescopic fashion. A connector assembly connects the rungs to respective columns in the first and second stiles. The ladder has improved manufacturability since connector assemblies may be assembled before connecting the rungs to respective columns. The standing surface of the rungs may be angled such that it is rotated towards horizontal when the ladder assembly is leaned against a wall. A latch assembly may be used to selectively lock relative axial movement between adjacent columns. The latch assembly includes a locking pin assembly comprised of a central post and an outer metal sleeve. An air damper may also be used to control airflow through the columns.

Abstract: A venting solution to large storage tanks is disclosed wherein a manway cover is formed with a vent, eliminating the need to affix a vent to the wall of the tank and allowing standardized manway covers with different vent sizes to be applied either in a retrofit or in new tanks. The covers can be formed two at a time to increase production, and can be fitted with a larger vent than would otherwise be practical with some tank diameters.

Abstract: Various mechanical closure systems and securing systems are disclosed, such as snowboard bindings and car rack systems. The systems include a mechanically reformable strap. The strap includes a wire disposed along a longitudinal axis of the strap. The wire maintains the strap in a desired geometry that is different from a previous geometry of the strap. In other embodiments, a wire-core strap can include transverse ridges, holes, or other types of grooves or apertures.
Abstract: In order to provide non-confusing information on supported media types in a group to group members, information on messages indicating supported media types are cross-checked with usable media types in the group.
Abstract: An environment variable for use cases such as UPnP AV use cases. The environment variable of the present invention is used to store the physical location of the user. For example, the environment variable can be used to identify a particular location as being a user's living room, kitchen, etc. The information stored in the environment variable can be used to enhance the user experience of the digital home or other environment by minimizing the number of manual selections that the user has to make in order to initiate a use case such as playing music in a bedroom or watching movies in a living room. The environment variable is used to trigger a change of a profile and select the devices needed to implement different use scenarios.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, user interface and computer program product include the ability to determine a brightness characteristic of a display, use the brightness characteristic to determine a minimum and optimum font size for information displayed on the display, and automatically adjust the displayed information such that a size of a smallest font of the information is not smaller than the minimum font size and that a size of a main font of the information is not smaller that the optimum font size.
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods for facilitating identification of the originator of a communication. A communication is received from a sending device. Sending device identification information is requested from a distributed contact database fashioned from the contact databases of the communication devices in a group of communication devices. If the sending device identification information is available at a given communication device, it is received from the communication device.
Abstract: An approach is provided for enabling access to content in a network service. Location information is received, at a server, relating to a first remote apparatus and another remote apparatus. The received location information is utilized to determine that the first remote apparatus and the another remote apparatus are proximal to each other. Access rights are updated within a network service to enable the user of the another remote apparatus to access content associated with the user of the first remote apparatus.
