Abstract: A skinning apparatus and a method of skinning a porous ceramic. The apparatus includes an axial skinning manifold. The axial skinning manifold includes a curved adaptive pipe to flow cement in a circumferential direction from an inlet at a first position and through an adaptive opening along an inner bend of the curve through a land channel disposed along the inner bend. The land channel emits the cement at a constant velocity from a land opening extending proximate the first position to a second position spaced apart from the first position. The land outlet emits cement at a constant velocity around the outer periphery of the porous ceramic to dispose a uniform skin thereon as the porous ceramic moves axially relative to the land outlet.

  • Publication number: 20150141525
Abstract: A method for producing starch granules suitable as an excipient for an orally disintegrating tablet. Fluidized bed granulation is performed by spraying a starch paste in small amounts while a ?-starch is being fluidized using an air-fluidized bed. Subsequently, fluidized bed drying is performed at a temperature equal to or higher than the gelatinization temperature of the ?-starch. This yields starch granules having a high degree of gelatinization in comparison with the amount of ?-starch adhered to the ?-starch by the spraying of the starch paste. These starch granules alone impart satisfactory oral disintegratability and breaking strength to the tablet. Accordingly, when used as an excipient during tableting of orally disintegrating tablets, other auxiliary excipients such as saccharides or crystalline cellulose need not be added.

  • Patent number: 9034458
Abstract: An edge-protected product and finishing method therefor. The product comprises a first we and a second web bonded intermittently to the peripheral regions of a major surface of the sheet material to be protected. The bonded webs provide the desired level of protection to the peripheral regions and the edge surfaces of the sheet material. The intermittent bonding allows for the clean and convenient separation of the sheet material and the webs that a continuously bonded web would not be able to provide. Where laser cutting is used to separate the protected product, the edge-protected product with intermittent bonding areas allows for the separation without laser irradiation to the web material, thus no generation of toxic fume or charring due to oxidation, melting and/or disintegration of the web material caused by laser heating. The invention is particularly useful for protecting thin glass sheets, especially those in the form of a spool.

  • Patent number: 9027815
Abstract: Apparatus and equipment for making glass sheet from a glass ribbon including scoring, bending and separation in vertical state with improved glass ribbon stability provided by edge restrainers located above the score-line that also travel with substantially the same vertical velocity with the elastic ribbon. The edge restrainers on both sides of the glass ribbon serve to limit the motion and perturbation of the ribbon during scoring, bending and separation, advantageously by tensioning the glass ribbon where needed. The invention can reduce disturbance of the glass ribbon in upstream visco-elastic and/or viscous zones due to scoring, bending and separation, therefore enhance forming process stability and product attributes such as thickness variation, stress and stress variation, and the like. The invention can be particularly advantageous for making glass sheet with large width and/or low thickness using the fusion down-draw, slot down-draw, re-draw down-draw, and other down-draw processes.
