  • Patent number: 11249249
Abstract: A method is used to select a multimode fiber meeting requirements of a first minimum bandwidth at a first wavelength and a second minimum bandwidth at a second wavelength different from the first wavelength. Differential mode delay (DMD) data is measured for the multimode fiber at the first wavelength. The DMD data comprises output laser pulse data as a function of the radial position of an input laser pulse having the first wavelength. The DMD data is transformed into mode group space, to obtain relative mode group delay data as a function of mode group. The multimode fiber is selected based on meeting requirements of the first minimum bandwidth at the first wavelength based on a first set of criteria, comprising a first criterion using as input the measured differential mode delay (DMD) data for the multimode fiber measured at the first wavelength.

  • Patent number: 11249032
Abstract: Methods for detecting defects on the surface of a sheet of material include collimating a beam of light and intersecting the collimated beam of light with a beam splitter. The beam splitter directs a first portion of the intersected beam of collimated light to illuminate a first surface of the sheet, wherein a first portion of the light illuminating the first surface is reflected and a second portion of the illuminating light is scattered by a defect. The reflected and scattered light is received with a first lens element that directs the reflected and scattered light to an inverse aperture. The reflected light is blocked by the inverse aperture and the scattered light is transmitted by the inverse aperture. The scattered light transmitted by the inverse aperture is directed with a second lens element to an imaging device.

  • Patent number: 11245431
Abstract: Reducing an uplink accumulated noise floor in a distributed communications system (DCS) is disclosed. The DCS includes a number of remote units that communicate a number of uplink digital communications signals to a base station concurrently. In DCSs disclosed in certain aspects herein, a signal source, such as a digital baseband unit (BBU) for example, includes multiple receiver circuits each configured to receive and decode a respective one of the uplink digital communications signals. By individually receiving and decoding the uplink digital communications signals before combining the uplink digital communications signals, each of the receiver circuits can operate with a lowered noise floor. As a result, it is possible to improve received sensitivity of the receiver circuits, thus helping to improve coverage range, spectrum efficiency, and data throughput of the DCS.

  • Patent number: 11242215
Abstract: The apparatus and methods disclosed herein are directed to detecting the presence of a whipping tail when using a fiber winding system to wind a fiber onto a rotating spool. The fiber is guided onto the rotating spool through a containment region between the spool and a whip shield to create the wound fiber. The whipping tail outwardly extends from the wound fiber and periodically or quasi-periodically passes through a light beam to create a series intensity dips in the light beam, thereby forming a modulated light beam. The modulated light beam is converted into a digital electrical signal made up of electrical pulses having a timing defined by the intensity dips. The measured timing of the electrical pulses is compared to an estimated timing based on the rotating spool to ascertain the presence of a whipping tail.
