Abstract: A target surface of a target object including portions having different curvatures is inspected by using an illuminating device and a camera that are fixed, a supporting device for supporting the target object such that its position and orientation are variable. The position and orientation of the target object are controlled as its image is obtained for a plurality of times. The position and orientation of the target object are controlled such that the image of any point on the target surface will be included in at least one of the images obtained by the camera.
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for manufacturing a bipolar junction transistor that comprises an emitter/base layer that is formed by a single deposition process. In one advantageous embodiment of the invention the emitter/base layer comprises an emitter layer that comprises an epitaxially grown mono-silicon emitter. The epitaxially grown mono-silicon emitter significantly reduces the electrical resistivity of the emitter. A non-dopant impurity such as germanium is added to the base layer to endpoint a dry plasma etch process that is applied to etch the emitter/base layer.

Abstract: The present invention is a Contact Server that enables customers to submit call-back requests to a call center via the Internet, or virtually any other communications technology available. A call-back to the customer can be placed via any communications technology available. In its preferred embodiment, the Contact Server enables a call-back request to be submitted by a customer directly from an HTML page on a Web site, and have that same HTML page be presented to the agent that receives the call-back request. The agent can then place a telephone call to the number provided by the customer who submitted the call-back request, and at the same time, establish a TCP/IP communications session with the customer. This TCP/IP session can proceed between the agent's Web browser and the customer's Web browser, and the visible actions performed by the agent are transferred to the customer and displayed on the customer's browser.
Abstract: Instruction execution is controlled by a single test that determines whether processing should continue in mainline processing or fall through to a test set. The single test compares a dynamically set variable to an instruction counter. If the test is met, mainline processing continues. Otherwise, processing falls through to a test set.

Abstract: A power management scheme is disclosed wherein power limits are imposed on devices of an electronic system using selective airflow reduction. In one embodiment, each server in a rack system includes a throttling system for maximizing processor throughput within a fixed temperature constraint. An airflow system is capable of providing a variable amount of airflow to each server. The power consumption for each server is detected by an external power meter circuit and monitored by a controller operatively connected to the airflow source. The controller selectively reduces the amount of airflow to each server in relation to its power consumption, to induce an amount of throttling of each server sufficient to impose its respective power limit.

Abstract: An electrodynamic machine has a winding and a switching arrangement effectively dividing the winding into individually controllable portions. During a first operating condition, current flows through the entire winding in a manner controlled by the switching arrangement. In a second condition, the switching arrangement restricts current flow to only a portion of the winding. The second condition effectively reduces the inductive capacity of the winding.
Abstract: A method of generating an annotated network topology of a network is described. The method includes; deriving a network topology by performing a route tracing utility between each pair of endpoints to determine the route taken by packets; initially annotating each network path with an initial value; determining the available bandwidth of a path connecting a pair of endpoints by performing Transfer Control Protocol (TCP) flows between the pair of endpoints; identifying a bottleneck link in the network path, and annotating all edges to generate an annotated network topology wherein available bandwidth annotation of links inside the network is determined using end-to-end network measurements.

Abstract: The dicing die-bonding film of this invention comprises a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (2) on a supporting base material (1) and a die-bonding adhesive layer (3) on the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (2), wherein a releasability in an interface between the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (2) and the die-bonding adhesive layer (3) is different between an interface (A) corresponding to a work-attaching region (3a) in the die-bonding adhesive layer (3) and an interface (B) corresponding to a part or the whole of the other region (3b), and the releasability of the interface (A) is higher than the releasability of the interface (B). According to this invention, there can be provided a dicing die-bonding film excellent in balance between retention in dicing a work and releasability in releasing its diced chipped work together with the die-bonding adhesive layer.

The method of manufacturing a solar cell in accordance with the present invention comprises a sputtering step of forming a layer containing Ib and IIIb group elements and Se on a substrate by sputtering with a target containing a Ib group element and a target containing a IIIb group element in an atmosphere containing Se; and a heat treatment step of heating the layer.
Abstract: Attention is paid on the phenomenon that substantially no direct sun light or no reflected light from surrounding objects is applied, to a vehicle bottom side and tire travel surfaces and the vehicle bottom side and the tire travel surfaces have lower luminance values than all the other portions including the shades of trees or buildings along the road in an on-vehicle camera image. Luminance threshold specifying unit (13) analyzes an image luminance histogram and specifies the upper limit of the pixel luminance which can be assumed as a region of the vehicle bottom side. Vehicle assumed region extracting unit (15) assumes that the pixel position having a luminance value not greater than the upper limit is the region of the vehicle bottom side and sets a vehicle assumed region, thereby verifying presence/absence of a vehicle in the vicinity.

Abstract: A wireless communications system employs code-division multiple access information transmission techniques where the uplink and downlink transmission bandwidths are unequal. The higher bandwidth is an integer multiple of the lower bandwidth. The present system requires a base station and a subscriber unit to have two pseudo-random code generators which can be clocked separately. Alignment of the uplink and downlink pseudo-random spreading codes is achieved by truncating the code sequence for the lower speed link at the conclusion of a complete code sequence for the higher speed link.
