Abstract: An apparatus and method for enabling selective stimulation of oculomotor reflexes involved in retinal image stability. The apparatus enables real-time modification of auditory and visual stimuli according to the patient's head movements, and allows the generation of stimuli that integrate vestibular and visual reflexes. The use of accessories allow the modification of somatosensory stimuli to increase the selective capacity of the apparatus. The method involves generation of visual and auditory stimuli, measurement of patient response and modification of stimuli based on patient response. The apparatus and method may include a vestibular rehabilitation unit (VRU) and a remote training unit (RTU). Instructions may be transmitted from the VRU to the RTU, and information of detected responses may be transmitted from the RTU to the VRU.

Abstract: An apparatus for introduction into a test body includes a functional portion for obtaining information on an inside of a test body; a power source for supplying power for driving the functional portion; and an enclosed container for accommodating the functional portion and the power source. A cross-sectional shape orthogonal to a longitudinal direction of the enclosed container is an elliptical shape to make an outer shape small to alleviate a burden on a test subject during introduction into a body by swallowing or the like for test.

Abstract: An electronic device which obtains time from a real-time clock, the real-time clock keeping time with electric power supplied from a specific chargeable/dischargeable power supply, the real-time clock including: a discharge detecting unit which detects whether the power supply is discharging; a clock setup unit which sets a clock for the real-time clock; a clock setup flag which indicates whether the clock has been set by the clock setup unit; and a warning unit which issues a warning to encourage a user to set the clock in a period since the discharge of the power supply is detected until the clock is newly set, in which when the clock is set, the clock setup unit turns the clock setup flag on to indicate that the clock is set; when the warning unit issues a warning, the clock setup unit turns the clock setup flag off to indicate that the clock is not yet set; and the warning unit issues the warning when the clock setup flag is off.

Abstract: An inspection circuit for inspecting an electro-optic device that includes a data line, a scanning line, a pixel portion, a driving circuit, and a first terminal portion through which a first power supply voltage is supplied to the driving circuit. The inspection circuit includes an inspection line electrically connected to an inspection unit inspecting the pixel portion, a connection circuit electrically connecting the inspection line to the data line, and a supply circuit supplying a control signal for controlling conduction between the data line and the inspection line to the connection circuit. The supply circuit is driven using a second power supply voltage supplied through a second terminal portion.

Abstract: An image pick-up device comprises a first image pick-up unit for taking an image of a left eye of a subject, a second image pick-up unit for taking an image of a right eye of the subject, a first lighting unit for illuminating the left eye of the subject, a second lighting unit for illuminating the left eye in a direction intersecting an image-taking optical axis of the second image pick-up unit, a third lighting unit for illuminating the right eye of the subject, and a fourth lighting unit for illuminating the right eye in a direction intersecting an image-taking optical axis of the first image pick-up unit.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus displays image data and plays back music data such that background music (BGM) is applied to a collection of content such as photographic data, the BGM being reminiscent of the time when the photographic data was acquired. When a command to display a scrapbook or similar plurality of image data is issued, a search unit searches for music metadata that is related to the image metadata of the image data. A display controller then controls the display of the specified plurality of image data, while in parallel, a playback controller controls the playback of the music data corresponding to the music metadata found by the search unit.

Abstract: The Distributed Virtual I/O Tool replaces dedicated VIO server LPARs by distributing the virtual I/O functions across several application LPARs connected by a high-speed communication channel. The physical I/O devices are distributed across available LPARs. The Distributed Virtual I/O Tool assigns each I/O request to an appropriate I/O device. The Distributed Virtual I/O Tool monitors each I/O request and reassigns I/O devices when performance drops on a specific device or when a device is no longer available.

Abstract: A system and method for configuring a water heater to drain condensate from combustion products is provided. The water heater comprises a water tank, a burner for producing combustion products, a flue extending through an interior of the water tank to receive the combustion products, and an exhaust passageway positioned downstream of the flue and extending outside of the water tank to exhaust the combustion products. The exhaust passageway includes a first portion and a second portion positioned at an elevation above the first portion. A bypass conduit is coupled to the exhaust passageway and positioned to direct condensate in the exhaust passageway from the second portion toward the first portion. A drain port is positioned at or an elevation below the first portion of the exhaust passageway to drain condensate from the exhaust passageway.

Abstract: In a recognition system for a vehicle, forward vehicle information and infrastructural information are checked together and with respect to information that can be considered to pertain to one and the same vehicle. Pieces of information on position and speed are averaged to acquire the information of the vehicle. Pieces of information that can be considered to pertain to one and the same vehicle are searched for and integrated into one. Further, estimated values of speed and position in the future are corrected using traveling information and outputted to a drive assisting device.

Abstract: Provided is a magnetic tape apparatus using perpendicular magnetic recording, which has the function corresponding to an soft-magnetic under layer with sufficiently large thickness and enables the magnetic tape to maintain life sufficiently. This magnetic tape apparatus comprises: a tape head comprising at least one write head element for perpendicular magnetic recording; and a soft-magnetic capstan belt having a surface contact with the magnetic tape and pressing the magnetic tape to the tape head at least during recording, for controlling running speed of the magnetic tape by causing the magnetic tape to run together with the soft-magnetic capstan belt. Further it is preferable that at least two capstan-belt axes are further provided, and the soft-magnetic capstan belt is a loop running among the at least two capstan-belt axes.

Abstract: A balloon catheter is provided that may be used to dilate hardened regions of a stenosis. The balloon catheter is provided with one or more dilation elements that extend along a surface of a balloon. Each dilation element is connected to an outer surface of the balloon by a connector. The connector is sufficiently sized and designed to undergo stress-induced plastic deformation incurred during blow molding so that a significant portion of each of the dilation elements does not become absorbed into the wall of the final blow molded balloon, thereby maintaining the structural integrity of each of the dilation elements.

Abstract: A method of identifying and dynamically updating storage device status at a target is applied for a storage area network (SAN) built by Linux system, for determining operating status of storage devices at a target through logic device identification numbers. First, a session is established between an initiator and the target, and allocated storage devices and corresponding logic unit numbers (LUNs) are obtained. Then, the initiator sends a CMD request packet with report LUN command to the target. Afterward, according to the LUNs in a received CMD response packet, operating status corresponding to the storage devices is determined. Thereby, timeout may be reduced by avoiding sending queries to those storage devices. When the device allocation is modified, the target may send an asynchronous message PDU to update a storage device status record at the target, so as to maintain the usability of the record.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a server system having a plurality of computer systems and a liquid cooling system. The computer systems are capable of operating in a first mode of operation at a first operating speed and a first temperature. The computer systems are further capable of operating in a second mode of operation at a second operating speed and a second temperature. The server system switches from the second mode and the first mode in response to a request for processing services rising above a first threshold. The server system further uses a cold battery to store coolant during times of low demand and releases coolant from said cold battery when the system switches to the first mode.

Abstract: Optical elements (light sources 16 or photodetectors 18) are arranged in a two-dimensional array, and the relative positional relationship between the optical elements and optical waveguides 12 is defined such that optical waveguides 12 extend between the optical elements in the two-dimensional array substantially parallel to substrate 19 for increased parallelism. Micromirrors 15 are disposed in respective optical waveguides 12 to bend light beams through 90 degrees to realize a highly efficient optical coupling between the optical elements and optical waveguides 12. The optical waveguides are stacked in multiple stages, and light beams are lead to the optical waveguides in the multiple stacks through micromirrors 15 across the stacked plane of the optical waveguides, thereby realizing parallel connection between the two-dimensional array of optical elements and a two-dimensional array of optical waveguides.

The distance between neighboring pixel electrodes among the plurality of pixel electrodes is 5 ?m or more.

The errors are detected by analyzing a metric of a dash minimum response obtained from a test pattern. The test pattern contains dashes. At least one dash is shifted in the process direction in relation to another dash.

Abstract: Systems and methods enabling search of a repository for the location of data that is similar to input data, using a defined measure of similarity, in a time that is independent of the size of the repository and linear in a size of the input data, and a space that is proportional to a small fraction of the size of the repository. The similar data segments thus located are further analyzed to determine their common (identical) data sections, regardless of the order and position of the common data sections in the repository and input, and in a time that is linear in the segment size and in constant space.
