  • Patent number: 7451549
Abstract: A magnetic compass apparatus and method to account for magnetic distortion while determining a magnetic heading is disclosed. The method enables a compass module, comprising at least two magnetometers, to characterize its magnetic environment dynamically, while collecting data of a geomagnetic field; a user moves an apparatus through various orientations; the environment may or may not contain magnetic distortion influences. Data gathered by magnetometers and, optionally, accelerometers are processed through at least two filters before being transferred as a processed data set for repetitive measurement calculations. A series of calculations is executed recursively in time by solving one or more linear vector equations using processed data.

  • Patent number: 7453377
Abstract: A compressed pattern matching based on LZW compressed sequences with a simple bitmap-based realization of the Amir-Benson-Farach algorithm is provided. A suffix trie for a searched pattern is determined and a LZW trie is constructed for a compressed data. For each data chunk in the compressed data a variety of information is determined and a node is added to the LZW trie. The queries used to determine the information are implemented through bitmaps, and allowing identification of all occurrence of the searched pattern.

  • Patent number: 7454486
Abstract: Profile controls for profiling a distributed application are included in messages that are also used by the distributed application to transport data. A profile initiator causes profile controls to be inserted in the header portion of a message that is being transported across a distributed system. The profile initiator may insert profile controls directly or may cause a message router that receives the message to merge profile controls into the message. The message router may receive profile controls from the profile initiator or from computer-readable media that are maintained at the message router. The message, which now includes distributed application data and profile controls, is routed to a message recipient. The message recipient accesses the message to identify profile actions that are to be performed at the message recipient. The message recipient performs at least one of the identified profile actions.

  • Patent number: 7454503
Abstract: A monitoring program contains a method for detecting a load imbalance in a group of servers and providing notification so that corrections can be made. An embodiment of the invention reads from the address resolution protocol (ARP) cache to determine which server addresses are present, then clears the ARP cache. The address resolution protocol will repopulate the cache from traffic it snoops and from new requests. By performing this query and clear operation periodically, the tracking program can form a picture of the activity levels of the servers. When a significant imbalance exists, the program notifies a control console for human intervention to solve the problem. The tracking program will periodically write its results to a log file, allowing reports for various time periods to be produced as needed. By this mechanism, not only can an imbalance be quickly detected, but underutilization can be picked up by comparing known capability of a resource to its actual usage.

  • Publication number: 20080282164
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for handling contact information in a communication device. The method can include a step of presenting content within a visual interface of the communication device. A contact detection algorithm can execute to detect contact items included in the content. A visual indication can be presented next to each detected contact item. User input can be received, which causes the communication device to perform a contact action relating to one of the contact items. The contact action can add contact information to an address book, can initiate a communication session, and/or can place the contact item in a memory space for later use by an application other than one in which the content was presented.

  • Publication number: 20080277580
Abstract: The number of times of repetition of mass spectrometry analysis for integrating mass profiles is reduced to facilitate reduction in measurement time-period and increase a signal intensity. In a state when ions are trapped by a high-frequency electric field formed within an ion trap, a rectangular-wave high-frequency voltage to be applied from a main voltage generation section to a ring electrode is temporarily stopped, and next ions are introduced from an ion entrance port into the ion trap in a state when only a static electric field exists within the ion trap. The high-frequency voltage application is re-started while at least a part of previously-trapped ions remain within the ion trap, to trap the newly-introduced ions in addition to the previous ions so as to increase an amount of ions to be accumulated, and the accumulated ions are subjected to the mass spectrometry analysis.
