Abstract: A portable computing device for opening a door (an electronic door opener) and a method for its use is disclosed. The computing device has a shared secret key, a standard certificate, means for communicating with the door, and a processor adapted for performing operations with shared secret keys and standard certificates. The door also possesses the same shared secret key. Under normal operation, messages encoded with the shared secret key serve to establish a right to open the door. The portable computing device's standard certificate is used to respond to occasional challenges by the door, and to generate the shared secret key. Biometric capabilities of the portable computing device add an additional layer of security in screening the identity of the user of the device. A security system for controlling access, involving a first plurality of computing devices and a second plurality of doors, and operating based on shared secret keys and occasional challenges is also disclosed.

Abstract: A displaying method for trans-flective type display device is provided. The pixel array of the display device has a selected pixel unit formed by three sub-pixels selected from three basic-color sub-pixels and one enhancement sub-pixel, wherein there is a reflective area within the enhancement sub-pixel. The displaying method includes the following steps. Firstly, an original image having an image data is provided to the display device. Next, when the backlight is turned off, the resolution of the original image is scaled down for obtaining an adjusted image data. Then, another pixel unit consisting of the three basic-color sub-pixels and the enhancement sub-pixel is re-selected, and the driving value of the enhancement sub-pixel is calculated according to the adjusted image data for driving the enhancement sub-pixel.

Abstract: An electronic device and method for forming same. The electronic device includes a source and drain region. Each region has an uppermost portion comprised of a first silicide where the first silicide is overlaid with a first dielectric layer. The electronic device further includes a gate region having an uppermost portion comprised of a second silicide. The second silicide is both thicker than the first silicide and has a lower resistivity than the first silicide with at least a portion of the second silicide being formed in an opening in the first dielectric layer.

Abstract: An X-ray diagnostic system has a display unit, a selection unit, a calculation unit and an imaging execution unit. The display unit displays images of a plurality of flames collected by a predetermined frame rate about an object. The selection unit selects an image of a particular frame from the images of the frames displayed on the display unit. The calculation unit calculates a delay time to the particular frame selected by the selection unit based on the frame rate. The imaging execution unit executes an imaging based on the delay time calculated by the calculation unit.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for a graphical user interface allow performing operations simply by dragging a first object to touch a second object. The selection of the first object places a corresponding first object in a chain of objects. When the selected first object touches a second object, a corresponding second object is added to the chain of objects. This process may continue for the selection of many objects by merely touching each object with the selected first object, which causes a corresponding object to be added to the chain of objects. The chain of objects may then be processed as an atomic group of operations that may be rolled back if any of the operations in the group fail.

Abstract: A valve enables and disables communication of a bypass passage, which extends from a fluid supply passage and bypasses at least one fluid control valve, to at least one of a retarding passage and an advancing passage connected to a valve timing mechanism. An ECU controls the valve to enable the communication of the bypass passage to the at least one of the retarding passage and the advancing passage when a temperature is equal to or less than a predetermined temperature. The ECU controls the valve to disable the communication of the bypass passage to the at least one of the retarding passage and the advancing passage when the temperature is higher than the predetermined temperature.

Abstract: After a sampling transistor is turned ON at a first timing when a control signal has risen, during a sampling period from a second timing when a video signal has risen from a reference potential to a signal potential to a third timing when the control signal has fallen and is turned OFF, the sampling transistor samples and writes the signal potential in a holding capacitance, and negatively feeds back a current flowing into a drive transistor during the sampling period to the holding capacitance and applies mobility correction of the drive transistor on the written signal potential. A signal driver adjusts the second timing for the video signal supplied to respective signal lines to correct a backward shift of the third timing due to a transmission delay along a scanning line of the control signal output from the control scanner.

The protective adhesive layer can include a polymer having a repeating unit with a functional hydroxyl group, such as poly(vinyl alcohol). For instance, the polymer can be at least 90 mole % hydrolyzed. The polyvinyl alcohol can be a co-polymer of vinyl alcohol and a monomer, such as an acrylic ester like a methacrylic ester (e.g., methyl methacrylate).

Abstract: An emulsion composition includes prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), a phospholipid with a high purity and a non-proton-providing surfactant that improves stability of PGE1. Embodiments of the emulsion composition include an effective amount of PGE1, about 1% to about 30% (w/w) of a pharmaceutically acceptable oil as an oil base based on the weight of the emulsion composition, about 1% to about 30% (w/w) of a phospholipid with a high purity based on the weight of the oil base, about 1.6% to about 40% (w/w) of a non-proton-providing surfactant based on the weight of the oil base, and the balance of the emulsion composition being water.

Abstract: A method and system for allocating blocks of disk in persistent storage to requesting threads. A primary data structure is provided for organizing and categorizing blocks of disk space. In addition, a secondary data structure is provided for maintaining a list of all active file system processes and blocks of disk space used by those processes. Blocks of disk space are assigned to pages. At such time as a thread may request allocation of disk space, both data structures are reviewed to determine if the requested disk space is available and to limit access of available disk space to a single page of memory to a single thread at any one time.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems and methods remove liquid from a workpiece. A first station subjects a workpiece to processing that leaves a liquid on a surface of the workpiece. A second station is disposed at a location spaced apart from the first station. A porous member is disposed between the first and second stations. The porous member has a liquid-phyllic surface that faces the workpiece and is spaced from a surface of the workpiece by a gap. The porous member has a length in a direction perpendicular to a movement direction in which the workpiece moves from the first station to the second station, the length being at least as large as a dimension of the workpiece in the direction perpendicular to the movement direction.

Abstract: An enterprise-wide sharing arrangement uses a semantic abstraction, called a security assessment, to share security-related information between different security products, called endpoints. A security assessment is defined as a tentative assignment by an endpoint of broader contextual meaning to information that is collected about an object of interest. Its tentative nature is reflected in two of its components: a fidelity field used to express the level of confidence in the assessment, and a time-to-live field for an estimated time period for which the assessment is valid. Endpoints may publish security assessments onto a security assessment channel, as well as subscribe to a subset of security assessments published by other endpoints. A specialized endpoint is coupled to the channel that performs as a centralized audit point by subscribing to all security assessments, logging the security assessments, and also logging the local actions taken by endpoints in response to security threats.

The endoscopic illumination tester includes an optical bridge that is removably interlockable with the lightsource. The endoscopic illumination tester includes an integrating sphere that is removably interlockable with the optical bridge. The endoscopic illumination tester may further engage a lightguide connectable between the optical bridge and the lightsource. An endoscope may be inserted between the optical bridge and the integrating sphere.

Abstract: Method and system are disclosed for automatically discovering associations between applications and data in multi-tiered distributed systems. The method in one aspect uses a machine-readable specification of a model or template that describes use and transformation of data by software components. The method additionally utilizes a model of system configuration and appropriate runtime support to mine information available from systems management software present in enterprise systems. The application-data association discovery process performs a traversal of the distributed system configuration graph with actions taken during this traversal driven by the contents of the templates for the software components present in the system. The results of the application-data association discovery process are stored in a database and may be used to specify application-specific information lifecycle management (ILM) policy or as input to impact analysis tools in access control and antivirus systems.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for inspecting a specimen are provided. The apparatus comprises a primary illumination source, a catadioptric objective exhibiting central obscuration that directs light energy received from the primary illumination source at a substantially normal angle toward the specimen, and an optical device, such as a prism or reflective surface, positioned within the central obscuration resulting from the catadioptric objective for receiving further illumination from a secondary illumination source and diverting the further illumination to the specimen. The method comprises illuminating a surface of the specimen at a variety of angles using a primary illumination source, illuminating the surface using a secondary illumination source, the illuminating by the secondary illumination source occurring at a substantially normal angle of incidence; and imaging all reflected, scattered, and diffracted light energy received from the surface onto a detector.

The PDU size is flexible up to the maximum PDU size.

Abstract: Various technologies and techniques are disclosed for providing server directed browsing. After determining that a user needs assistance with one or more particular issues, a client browser being operated by the user and a server agree on a unique communication identifier. The client browser sends asynchronous requests to the server after the client browser loads a script library which causes the asynchronous requests to begin. One or more appropriate responses are received, such as from a responding user. The response is submitted to a command queue on the server so that the asynchronous requests from the client browser will pick up the response on a later communication. The response is one or more commands that the client browser later executes.
