Abstract: The invention discloses a system and method for managing feedback data that will be used for ranking search results. The invention can aggregate a plurality of user feedback data from more than one user into a search index. The user feedback data can be associated with one or more documents within the index such that the one or more documents can be ranked based on the type of feedback data that is aggregated. Once the documents have been ranked, the ranked documents can be provided to a requester.

Abstract: Architecture for installing and hosting of remote or server-based single-purpose applications (or server gadgets) on a local client. Where the client supports client gadgets that are available all the time, the server gadgets can now be installed and utilized on the client. Once installed in the client gadget framework, server gadgets can be docked or undocked. The server gadgets can be added to the client gadget framework with no modifications, and will continue to run as if running on the server. Components of the architecture include a browser plug-in (e.g., browser helper object (BHO)) that provides added functionality for the browser being employed, a client hosting application for hosting server gadgets on the client, and methods by which the client hosting application can interact with the server gadget and the server gadget can interact with the client hosting application. An installer is provided to install these components.

Abstract: A method for controlling regeneration of a lean NOx trap includes estimating an accumulated NOx in the lean NOx trap; determining whether the estimated NOx exceeds a first threshold value or a second threshold value; estimating the temperature of the lean NOx trap; determining whether the estimated temperature exceeds a threshold temperature; determining a desired air-fuel ratio for initiating a regeneration event, the desired air-fuel ratio being determined based upon the estimated NOx and the estimated temperature of the lean NOx trap; hastening the occurrence of a regeneration event when the estimated NOx exceeds the first threshold value through active control of engine operating regimes; and initiating a regeneration event when the estimated NOx exceeds the second threshold value or when the estimated temperature exceeds the threshold temperature by forcing homogenous operation of the engine at the desired air-fuel ratio.

A hierarchical data set of user-identified interests in received from the user's Web client. The hierarchical data set is parsed, and responsive thereto, one or more keyword attribute values are extracted from the hierarchical data set. The extracted keyword values are applied to filter content for delivery to a requesting Web client.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an electro-optical device including an element substrate which includes a plurality of pixels including pixel electrodes and which is connected to a circuit board includes providing a UV-curable molding member on the element substrate such that the molding member extends from the element substrate to the circuit board and also includes curing the molding member by irradiating the molding member with UV light. The element substrate includes an electrostatic protection circuit. The electrostatic protection circuit is shielded from the UV light applied to the molding member in the operation of curing the molding member.

A character noise eliminating apparatus includes a device for repeating a processing in which a binary image is generated by binarizing an image with a binarization threshold that is inputted by an operator and the binary image is displayed on a data display device, and determining the character noise area, a device for setting density conversion area layers inside and outside the character noise area, and a device for setting a neighboring pixel group within the same density conversion area layer as the density conversion area layer to which a target pixel belongs as a reference area of the target pixel, with respect to pixels in the density conversion area layers, and generating a density converted image applying a local image enhancement.

Abstract: A “kill” intrinsic that may be used in programs for designating specific data objects as having been “killed” by a preceding action is provided. The concept of a data object being “killed” is that the compiler is informed that no operations (e.g., loads and stores) on that data object, or its aliases, can be moved across the point in the program flow where the data object is designated as having been “killed.” The “kill” intrinsic limits the reordering capability of an optimization scheduler of a compiler with regard to operations performed on “killed” data objects. The “kill” intrinsic may be used with DMA operations. Data objects being DMA'ed from a local store of a processor may be “killed” through use of the “kill” intrinsic prior to submitting the DMA request. Data objects being DMA'ed to the local store of the processor may be “killed” after verifying the transfer completes.

Abstract: Various technologies for delivering contextual television advertisement are described. A user selection of a media title is received. The media title has an associated set of contextual metadata that includes information regarding the media title. A request for the media title is forwarded to a first server and an advertisement request including the set of contextual metadata is forwarded to a second server. The second server uses the set of contextual metadata to retrieve contextual television advertisement information. The contextual television advertisement information and the media title are received from the second server and the first server respectively. Also, the contextual television advertisement information and the media title are played.

Abstract: A surge protector coated with an oxide layer having an excellent chemical stability at the high temperature range and excellent adherence with respect to main discharge electrodes. The surge protector includes a column-shaped ceramic member that has a conductive film divided by a discharge gap interposed therebetween; a pair of main discharge electrode members opposite to each other on both ends of the column-shaped ceramic member to come in contact with the conductive film; and a cylindrical ceramic tube which is fitted to the pair of main discharge electrode members opposite to each other to seal both the column-shaped ceramic member and sealing gas inside thereof. Oxide films are formed on main discharge surfaces of at least the protrusive supporting portions of the pair of main discharge electrode members opposite to each other, by performing an oxidation treatment, respectively.

Abstract: In order to cope with many rotor diameters using a single type of stator portion, two stator portions, each having a built-in signal processing circuit for detecting absolute positions independently, are disposed in opposition at positions which differ from each other with respect to a rotational center of a rotor portion. When one of the stator portions receives a request command RX from an external device, it transmits a detected serial communication signal. The other stator portion receives the transmitted serial communication signal, determines a position detection abnormality, and notifies the abnormality to the external device when a difference between the received absolute position and the absolute position detected by the other stator portion exceeds a deviation previously set for 180 degrees.

Abstract: A semiconductor structure of a liquid crystal display and the manufacturing method thereof are described. The manufacturing method includes the following steps. A patterned polysilicon layer and a first dielectric layer are formed on a substrate. A first patterned metal layer is formed to construct a gate electrode and a capacitor electrode. An ion implantation is conducted on the polysilicon layer to form drain and source electrodes. A second dielectric layer and a second patterned metal layer are formed thereon. Sequentially, a third dielectric layer is formed thereon. A plurality of via openings are formed by a patterned photoresist layer, and a third metal layer is formed thereon and filled into the via openings. The patterned photoresist layer and the redundant third metal layer are stripped from the substrate to form via plugs in the via openings. A patterned transparent conductive layer is formed thereon to connect the via plugs.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for visual background subtraction using one or more preprocessing modules. One or more effects are detected in a received image signal and one or more blocks are selectively enabled to preprocess the image signal to compensate for the detected one or more effects. Visual analysis is then performed on the preprocessed signal using background subtraction. A spatially-variant temporal smoothing of the image signal is also disclosed. The spatially-variant temporal smoothing can be achieved by the mixing of a new intensity value with a previous intensity time-average as determined by a weighting matrix. The mixing can be influenced by a dynamic bias term that is a real-time estimate of a valiance at the pixel, such as a degree of change, and the weighting can be determined by a relative stability of an observed value compared to a stability of the time-average.
