  • Patent number: 3983862
Abstract: Non-crystalline sugary materials are made from sugar and glucose syrup by heating an undissolved mixture of undiluted crystallized sugar and liquid glucose in an extrusion machine having meshing screws within a casing with means for heating the casing to heat the mixture to about 130.degree.C and to knead the mixture as it passes through the machine. The material leaving the machine is non-crystalline sugary matter suitable for confectionery use.

  • Patent number: 3982927
Abstract: Chromium-containing steels are decarburised without substantial losses of chromium by blowing simultaneously into the molten steels, below the surface thereof, water vapor and a non-oxidising gas such as hydrogen, nitrogen, argon or helium. A triple feed tuyere is used, with the water vapor in the central or intermediate tube, and the non-oxidizing gas in the other inner tube, and with a protective fluid in the outer tube. The proportions of water vapor and non-oxidizing gas are selected so that the temperature of the steel bath is thereby controlled and also the desired decarburisation occurs without substantial chromium loss.

  • Patent number: 3972752
Abstract: Method of preparation of an alloy comprising the steps of preparing a nickel-iron-chromium based alloy, placing the alloy in solution at temperatures between 925.degree.C and 1060.degree.C, followed by a quick cooling, aging the alloy at a first level of temperature and exposure time to obtain a precipitation of .gamma.' phase prior to a precipitation of a .gamma." phase and reducing the temperature to a second level of at least 700.degree.C.

  • Patent number: 3966374
Abstract: In the production of metallic powder by atomization, using jets of inert gas, of a stream of molten metal entering a receiver, the atomized stream of molten metal is subject to the action of vortices produced within the receiver by a tangential flow of inert gas in the lower part of the receiver in order to increase the number of impacts between the atomized metal and the receiver walls to increase the rate of cooling of the atomized metal.

  • Patent number: 3942658
Abstract: An installation for the agglomeration of minerals including, a rotatable circular track, a plurality of grate-carrying cars which rest on the track and move with it through various treatment zones, and a device for moving the cars relative to the track through a discharge zone. The device may tilt each car as it passes through the discharge zone in order to unload treated minerals from the grate on the car.

  • Patent number: 3934864
Abstract: A ferrous substance such as iron scrap, powder or sponge, carbon, and a substance forming slag are heated in a rotary converter having an inclined axis and an upwardly facing opening. The charge thus formed in the converter is heated by a burner pointing towards the interior converter base. A complementary injection of industrially pure oxygen is provided in the zone of the flame, the total quantity of oxygen injected being such that the ratio ##EQU1## in the fumes is at least equal to 0.8.
