Patent number: 6910607Abstract: A cover for a valved dispensing closure prevents the valve from opening while the cover is disposed on closure. The cover's central projection prevents flaps formed in the valve from opening, and the cover's outer projection prevents the flexible valve head from moving or inverting. The cover may also have projections that project inwardly from its skirt. The cover projections interact with mating projections formed on an exterior of the closure, and a lower end of the skirt may be disposed into an annular groove in the closure, to enhance a seal between the closure and the cover.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2002Date of Patent: June 28, 2005Assignee: Crown Cork & Seal Technologies CorporationInventors: Ricky G. Patent number: 6889507Abstract: A self-cooling can comprising an evaporator unit within the can and an absorber unit provided outside the container body. A beverage within the can is cooled by means of vapor which passes from the evaporator to the absorber when these are connected so as to provide a vapor path between the two. The path for water vapor, for example, to pass from the evaporator to the absorber is formed by rupturing a pane between the evaporator and the absorber when the can and part or all of the absorber are rotated relative to each other.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2000Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Crown Cork & Seal Technologies CorporationInventors: Paul Charles Claydon, Paul Robert Dunwoody, Stephen Robert Arnell, Christopher Paul Ramsey, Michael Stephane Spottiswoode

Patent number: 6890140Abstract: A seam adjuster for ensuring that a tight seam is formed between a can end and a can body. The seam tool (32) is mounted via bearing (34) on the seam lever (31), the centre of the bearing being eccentric to its outside diameter. The bearing has an-external thread (35) which mates with a complementary worm mechanism (36). By virtue of the eccentricity, rotation of the worm mechanism rotates the bearing and moves the seam tool radially for adjusting seam tightness. Seam tool height is set by a spacer (33) or shim which is readily interchangeable for varying the seam tool height without affecting seam tool tightness.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2002Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Crown Cork & Seal Technologies CorporationInventors: Daniel Egerton, Miles Waterworth

Patent number: 6887416Abstract: A method and device for the production of a closure cap having a first part (16, 17) and a second part (18), joined together by at least one thinner section (19). The device contains a female mould part (11) and a male mould part (12), which are moveable relative to one another, in order to enclose a mould cavity. After the closing of the mould cavity, an additional mould part (14) is moveable relative to the mould cavity. In order to reduce the volume thereof, until the plastics material fills the mould cavity completely. Consequently the invention ensures that when compression moulding in the mould cavity, the closure cap and in particular also the thinner section (19) are formed completely in the mould provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2000Date of Patent: May 3, 2005Assignee: Crown Cork & Seal Technologies CorporationInventors: Dieter Schmitt, Raymond Stich
