Patent number: 4252117Abstract: An improvement in an injection bulb device in an assembly for administration of parenteral solutions is disclosed. The device is a tubular elastomeric member having an enlarged intermediate section whose bore is larger than the bores in the two end sections. A plurality of flat-surfaced projections or rings extend inwardly from the walls of the bores in the end sections which compressively grip the end of a rigid needle adapter and flexible tubing inserted respectively within these end sections. The end of the tubing flares outwardly into the enlarged bore of the intermediate section and this configuration assists in increasing the strength of mechanical engagement between the tubing and the injection bulb.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1979Date of Patent: February 24, 1981Assignee: Cutter Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Neil J. Patent number: 4246898Abstract: A syringe for dispensing medicaments includes a barrel with a discharge end and an open end for receiving a plunger. The plunger has a head with engagement means for receiving a plunger seal. The plunger seal is a tubular member which is severed along a generally longitudinal direction providing a slit which allows the seal to be expanded for fitting onto the plunger head. Preferably the slit has an irregularity at the forward end which provides a locking configuration which prevents the seal from being twisted away from its normally tubular shape. For metered dose application, the shank of the plunger may be threaded for the desired placement of a stop ring threaded on the shank. In one form, the ring and barrel have interlocking means to prevent the ring from moving backward when pressure is applied to the plunger after the ring has reached the barrel.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1979Date of Patent: January 27, 1981Assignee: Cutter Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Louis J. Patent number: 4141379Abstract: An improved check valve is disclosed for use in a system for sequentially delivering primary and secondary solutions through a common conduit. The check valve comprises a hollow housing with an inlet and an outlet connected to an enlarged intermediate portion. Sealed at its periphery in the enlarged portion is a flexible diaphragm characterized by having foraminous means in at least its outer portion and imperforate means in its central portion. The imperforate means is spaced from a valve seat surrounding the passage at the inner end of the inlet so that when the primary solution flows from the inlet to the outlet, it will pass freely around the imperforate means and through the foraminous means. When an increase in pressure, even though slight, is exerted against the diaphragm caused by flow of the secondary solution in the direction of the outlet to the inlet, the diaphragm moves towards the inlet causing the imperforate means to seal against the valve seat and stop the flow of the primary solution.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1977Date of Patent: February 27, 1979Assignee: Cutter Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Reinhold R. Patent number: 4138105Abstract: The device comprises a closed container with a breathing tube and a means for variably adjusting the size of an aperture into the container. A transparent inclined tube is mounted on the container and houses a moveable air flow indicating member. The tube has a passage at the top leading into the container and a vent at the bottom of the tube allows air to enter to move the flow indicating member up the inclined tube. Air drawn from the container by inspiring through the breathing tube is replaced in part by air entering through the variable aperture means and by the air entering through the vent. By adjusting the size of the variable aperture, one can determine inspiratory capacity as correlated with the amount of air necessary to move the flow indicating member to the top of the tube or to an intermediate position in the tube.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1977Date of Patent: February 6, 1979Assignee: Cutter Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Darrell M.
