    Abstract: A system and method including software to aid in generation of panels and control instruments rapidly generates a station that can support a variety of control interfaces. Rapid-Prototyped Panels, or RP-Panels, replicate existing systems (for simulation, training, gaming, etc.) or from new designs (for human factors testing, as functional product, etc.). The controls have tactile and visual characteristics similar or identical to their functional component counterparts such as buttons, knobs, switches, pedals, joysticks, steering wheels, and touch panels but are modular and use alternative data transfer modes (potentiometers, fiber optics, RFID, machine vision, etc.) to track and analyze the response of the controls. The response is then transmitted to the host programs. With this method a user can design and fabricate a reconfigurable interface to interact with virtual environments for various applications such as simulation, training, virtual instrumentation, gaming, human factors testing, etc.

If possible, one or more operations are automatically performed on the software to enhance the security of the software by neutralizing the vulnerable or malicious code. Activities that cannot be neutralized automatically are flagged for human inspection.     Abstract: A tactor system transforms cable motion to tactor motion. A housing defining a plane is adapted for placement proximate to the skin of a user. A cable is operative to deform a tactor element in the housing, causing a portion of the element to move outwardly from the plane of the housing, thereby imparting a tactile sensation to the user's skin. For example, tension on the cable may cause a strip of flexible plastic or other suitable material to bend at a living hinge that moves outwardly from the plane of the housing. The cable may be driven by an actuator including. Two or more tactor elements may be disposed next to each other or in the same housing, with different elements being activated at different times to enhance the apparent frequency of the stimulus. For example, a reciprocating mechanism may be used to operate a pair of tactor elements out of phase with respect to one another.

    Abstract: A wireless monitoring/assessment system identifies and records selected basic activities of daily living, loss of balance, and falls of at-risk elderly using a minimum set of sensors. A wearable system collects data over an extended period from sensors mounted under each shoe/slipper inner sole, and three kinetic measurement sensors, one mounted on the subject's chest, and the other two on each thigh. The resulting data can be processed off line to determine if a loss of balance or fall has occurred and identify the basic activity that the subject was performing when it happened. The two inner sole foot pressure sensors provide data on the loading of the plantar aspect of each fore- and rear foot. Each kinematics measurement sensor module provides 3-axis acceleration and angular rate data from the torso and each thigh. All data is sampled at a high rate using an analog to digital converter, time stamped, and then stored in memory.

The TrackScreen tool provides finger-friendly mouse functions such as scrolling, dragging and clicking. The Magnifier application continuously captures the current screen image, and displays a magnified subset of it. Selecting within this magnified area with a pointing device (mouse, touchscreen, digitizer, etc) causes the application to simulate the action on the portion of the screen corresponding to the point in the magnified image that was selected. A KeyBoard application, a keyboard is rendered on screen, with sufficient size that the individual keys are easily selectable with an unaided finger. The Common Tasks Tool or CTT) allows common keyboard shortcuts, mouse events, and other user interface events to be specified in a configuration file and represented on screen as a large, easy-to-click button.
