  • Patent number: 6814873
Abstract: Materials and a process are provided whereby polymers with the pendant group or end group containing —Si(OR″)3 (where R″ is H, an alkyl group, Na, K, or NH4) are used to control aluminosilicate scaling in a Bayer process. When materials of the present invention are added to the Bayer liquor before the heat exchangers, they reduce and even completely prevent formation of aluminosilicate scale on heat exchanger walls. The present materials are effective at treatment concentrations that make them economically practical.

  • Patent number: 6806304
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for improving the shelf life of a hindered phenol antioxidant comprising the step of intimately mixing the hindered phenol antioxidant with a sulfur-containing peroxide decomposer. The inventors have discovered that mixing the peroxide decomposer with the hindered phenol antioxidant reduces the tendency of hindered phenols to yellow with age. This increases the desirability of the hindered phenol because it will not impart color to polymer systems. The present invention also relates to a composition produced from the process described above, and stabilized compositions and additive packages containing the composition produced from the above-described process.

  • Patent number: 6739454
Abstract: Collector compositions of a mixture of a C6 to C22 fatty hydroxamic acid and an oil for use in a method the removal of impurities from mineral ores by the froth flotation method. The collectors are prepared by reacting an ester of a C6 to C22 fatty acid with a hydroxylamine salt and a base in the presence of an oil and water to produce an alkyl hydroxamate salt; acidifying the alkyl hydroxamate salt, forming an organic layer and an aqueous layer, wherein the organic layer contains a C6 to C22 fatty hydroxamic acid substantially free of starting esters and hydrolysis and transesterification products of the ester; and separating the organic layer from the aqueous layer to provide a collector composition of the C6 to C22 fatty hydroxamic acid and the oil.

  • Patent number: 6730785
Abstract: It has been now surprisingly discovered after extensive research that 2-halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazine can be prepared with unprecedented selectivity, efficiency, mild conditions, and in high yield by the reaction of cyanuric halide with aromatics in the presence of at least one Lewis acid and at least one reaction promoter. This reaction is also unprecedently general as a variety of aromatics can be used to produce a wide selection of 2-halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazines. The novel approach includes the use of the reaction promoters in combination with at least one Lewis acid under certain reaction conditions to promote the formation of 2-halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazine compounds from cyanuric halide. Preferably, the Lewis acids and reaction promoters are combined to form a complex. 2-Halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazines are key intermediates for making 2-(2-oxyaryl)-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazine class of UV absorbers.
