  • Patent number: 6084891
Abstract: A method for analyzing the channel using the preceding slot synchronization sequence is provided. The method of the invention is for operating a receiver receiving a signal frame in a dynamic channel wherein the signal frame includes a plurality of slots, each including a plurality of data bits. Each of the slots further includes a synchronization sequence wherein at least a predetermined one of the slots is assigned for the receiver. The preceding slot following the receiver assigned slot includes a varying synchronization sequence which is selected from a group of predetermined synchronization sequences postulates. The method includes the steps of calculating from the preceding slot synchronization sequence an estimated taps value for each of the synchronization sequence postulates, calculating from the preceding step synchronization sequence a log likelihood metric value C(y,h) for each of the synchronization sequence postulates and selecting the synchronization word postulate having the best metric value.

  • Patent number: 6031466
Abstract: A method for reducing power of a receiver, having an identification number and receiving a non sequential hailing message containing at least one hailed identification number, wherein the message includes a plurality of lines, each having a code portion and a code correction portion providing error correction of a predetermined number of errors per line, the method includes the steps of:detecting portions of the hailed identification numbers within the received portion of the hailing message, comparing between the portions of the hailed identification numbers and the respective portion of the identification number, thereby detecting mismatches therebetween, andterminating reception of the hailing message if the number of the detected mismatches, for each of the portions of one hailed identification numbers, exceeds the maximal number of errors.

  • Patent number: 5994953
Abstract: A symbol detector for frequency modulated (FM) symbols includes a section determiner, a direction of movement determiner and a data symbol determiner. The section determiner receives a sample of in-phase and quadrature signals associated with a baseband transmitted FM symbol and determines the section value of a unit circle in an in-phase--quadrature coordinate system in which the sample lies. The direction of movement determiner receives the section value of a current sample and the section value of a neighboring sample and generates a positive direction of movement value if the direction of movement along the unit circle from the neighboring sample to the current sample is counterclockwise, a negative direction of movement value if the direction of movement is clockwise and 0 otherwise. The data symbol determiner receives the direction of movement values and decodes the transmitted FM symbol by masking N direction of movement values.
