  • Patent number: 4197853
Abstract: This invention relates to an electrochemical sensor system for the simultaneous and continuous measurement of the partial pressure of oxygen PO.sub.2 and carbon dioxide partial pressure PCO.sub.2 in fluids. The electrochemical sensor of the present invention is particularly useful for intra-arterial measuring PCO.sub.2 and PO.sub.2 in blood and is readily adapted to transcutaneous measurement of these blood gases by the addition of a heating element and minor configurational changes.

  • Patent number: 4197567
Abstract: A ground fault circuit interrupter which utilizes one trip coil to perform the combined functions of interrupting a circuit on occurrence of a ground fault as well as an under voltage condition. An electronic module supplies continuous current to the trip coil until a ground fault or under voltage condition occurs. The armature is spring biased in a direction away from the trip coil, with tension of the spring adjusted to pull the armature away from the trip coil when voltage in the coil decreases below a selected amplitude.

  • Patent number: 4196560
Abstract: A dispensing apparatus for machines for packeting cigarettes into hinged-lid rigid type cigarette packets is of the type comprising an intermittently rotating wheel having radially disposed compartments for housing individual cigarette packets. A dispensing channel is associated with the wheel and upper and lower heated plates cooperating with the compartments. A pushing member is provided at the end of the dispensing channel to push, during the normal operation of the apparatus, the individual packets into a first track coplanar to the dispensing channel. A control mechanism, should the wheel accidentally stop, acts on a pair of mechanical systems which cause the spacing apart of the plates from the compartments and further starts a timer.

  • Patent number: 4197323
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a process for the production of a textured protein-containing edible product resembling cooked meat from a fibrous protein material without the use of a binder, in which the proteins are spun, the fibres obtained are subjected to a combined pressing and dehydrating operation in a mould, impregnated with a solution of aroma precursors and sterilized in a container. The process is characterized in that, with the fibres arranged substantially parallel to one another in the mould, the combined pressing and dehydrating operation is carried out by subjecting the fibres to mechanical compression in the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 4196631
Abstract: An ultrasonic probe for measuring liquids at high temperature and under high pressure. The ultrasonic probe comprises a leak-tight protective sleeve which has an end face closed by a thin metallic wall. The protective sleeve contained internal elements which are in particular a transducing piezoelectric plate and a damping cylinder. The piezoelectric element has one face which is in mechanical and electrical contact with the internal face of the thin sleeve wall and the other face which is supported on a damping cylinder. The thin sleeve wall of the sleeve end face is constituted by a metallic layer obtained by cathodic sputtering.

  • Patent number: 4197157
Abstract: Refractory tubings, either in amorphous, polycrystalline or single crystal form, are made by moving a preformed tubing of a refractory material and a heated zone relative to each other, the heating zone providing sufficient heat to melt through the tubing and form a molten ring which is continuously advanced through the tubing. The heat source may be located externally or internally of the tubing wall or in both positions. The tubings may be formed as single crystals by using appropriate seeds; and by controlling the rate of movement of the tubing sections on either side of the molten ring the wall thickness and diameter of the final tubing may be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4195553
Abstract: A fluid-displacement radial piston machine, such as a hydraulic pump or motor, includes an eccentric member which is mounted on a shaft for displacement radially thereof to thereby change the eccentricity of a contact surface of the eccentric member which is engaged by sliding shoes of a plurality of working pistons. An arrangement for displacing the eccentric member includes a piston component which is connected to the eccentric member by two displacing portions and whose piston portion subdivides a compartment of the shaft into two actuating chambers into which pressurized fluid is selectively admitted through respective passages in the shaft and through a rotary transmission interposed between a source of the pressurized fluid and the shaft. One check valve is interposed in each of the passages and interrupts the communication of the respective actuating chamber with the rotary transmission when no pressurized fluid is admitted into any of the passages.
