Abstract: A powertrain system includes an engine mechanically coupled to an electro-mechanical transmission selectively operative in one of a plurality of transmission operating range states and one of a plurality of engine states. A method for controlling the powertrain system includes determining a current transmission operating range state and a current engine state, determining at least one potential transmission operating range state and engine state, determining preferability factors associated with the current and potential transmission operating range state and the engine state, preferentially weighting the preferability factors for the current transmission operating range state and engine state, and selectively commanding changing the present transmission operating range state and engine state based upon the preferability factors.

Abstract: The invention relates to a fuel cell stack (10) of a fuel cell system that is to be hermetically sealed off from the environment after operation is ended so that only a finite amount of air oxygen remains in the fuel cells, thus preventing the fuel cells from excessively aging. According to the invention, locking means (26, 28; 32, 34) are provided that are disposed on or in an end plate (14) or distributor plate of the fuel cell stack (10). The locking means (26, 28; 32, 34) are therefore thermally coupled to the end plate (14) and may freeze up at cold ambient temperatures. In a preferred embodiment, the locking means (26, 28; 32, 34) comprise an elastomer body (32, 34) able to cover and uncover a channel (44, 46) in the plate (14).

Abstract: In a method and apparatus for producing a composite component, a tubular hollow section blank is placed into a die cavity of a combination tool comprising an inner high-pressure shaping tool and an injection-molding tool. The combination tool is filled with a fluid in such a way that the blank is wetted from the inside by the fluid, and the ends of the combination tool are sealed by two axial molding plugs. The filled blank is then expanded under pressure . The finished hollow section is plastic-coated in the same tool. The hollow section is emptied after shaping in the sealed state, at least until it is no longer dripping, the pressurized fluid being expelled under pressure from the hollow section through at least one discharge channel formed in the axial molding plugs.

Abstract: A hybrid powertrain system includes torque generative devices to transfer power to an output member. An operator torque request, a rotational direction and speed of the output member, and a signal output from a transmission range selector are monitored. When a change in a direction of intended motion is determined, the powertrain system can change rotational direction of the output member when the speed of the output member is less than a threshold. The powertrain can inhibit a change in the rotational direction of the output member.

Abstract: A diesel exhaust treatment system for treating exhaust gas from a diesel engine comprises at least one diesel particulate filter, at least one diesel exhaust fluid mixing chamber and at least one selective catalytic reduction converter (SCR). In one desirable embodiment, plural diesel particulate filters are arranged in parallel and plural SCRs are arranged in parallel.
