  • Patent number: 7283056
Abstract: In a method and a computer program for identification when the driver of a vehicle is inattentive, a steering action following a steering quiescent phase is observed, in addition to the steering quiescent phase itself. The extent of the steering quiescent phase and of the steering action found are logically linked to one another, and the result of this logical operation is then used as a measure for the severity of the inattentiveness of the driver.

  • Patent number: 7281823
Abstract: The invention relates to a headlight 1 in particular based on the projection principle. The headlight has a semiconductor light source 4, which is arranged at the focal point of the reflector 2 and is connected to a cooling element 5. This cooling element 5 extends from the semiconductor light source 4 to the transparent lens 3, through which the light that is reflected by the reflector 2 is emitted, passes through the transparent lens 3, and projects beyond it. This arrangement of a semiconductor light source 4, a cooling element 5 and a transparent lens 3 ensures that the light source 4 is cooled effectively. In addition, the arrangement and the form of the cooling element 5 ensure that the cooling element 5 does not shadow, or only slightly shadows, the reflected light. This leads to a high light yield from the headlight 1 according to the invention, and to a long life.

  • Publication number: 20070234710
Abstract: In a method for regenerating a nitrogen oxide storage catalytic converter arranged in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine, a constant value is set in a first regeneration phase for the air/fuel ratio ?M of the air/fuel mixture fed to the internal combustion engine when a predeterminable triggering threshold value for the nitrogen oxide concentration in the exhaust gas on the output side of the nitrogen oxide storage catalytic converter is exceeded. The first regeneration phase is followed by a second regeneration phase, in which, the time rate of change d ?M/dt of the air/fuel ratio ?M is set as a function of the mass flow of the exhaust gas flowing through the nitrogen oxide storage catalytic converter or as a function of an internal combustion engine operating variable linked with the mass flow of exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 7278942
Abstract: A support structure for a rotor within a transmission system is provided. The cantilevered support structure is umbrella-shaped to create an area of space between the rotor and the main shaft where other vehicle components, such as a gear set or system of clutches, may be packaged. The cantilevered support structure may be a true cantilever or a steady-rested cantilever. The support structure maintains the rotor at a distance from the transmission main shaft to maintain torque within the system while compacting packaging requirements. A second cantilevered support structure is wineglass-shaped to create a second area of packaging space between the rotor and the main shaft. The support structures may be telescoped to further compact the transmission.

  • Publication number: 20070227645
Abstract: A method and a device for the automated application of a self-adhesive paint film to a three-dimensionally curved bodywork part, using a robotic application tool, the paint film being held ready in the form of a multi-layered film composite ready for picking up. After picking up has taken place, a protective strip on the adhesive side is removed from the film section, which is held taut, by means of a contact piece attached to the film composite on the end side and the adhesive side of the film section is thereby exposed. The paint film section is subsequently aligned above the body part to be covered, at a small distance from it, and is progressively pressed onto the bodywork part from the spaced-apart, taut position by means of a roller or doctor moving over the paint film.

  • Publication number: 20070227795
Abstract: An operating and display unit (1) for switching devices in a motor vehicle having at least one operating element and having a symbol display field (3?, 5?, 7?, 9?, 11?) which is associated with the operating element (3, 5, 7, 9, 11), is arranged in a fixed manner at a geometrically determined point in relation to the operating element (3, 5, 7, 9, 11), and has the purpose of displaying a symbol which is assigned to the device to be switched. The operating and display unit (1) is distinguished by the fact that the symbol display field (3?, 5?, 7?, 9?, 11?) is embodied using black panel technology.

  • Patent number: 7277781
Abstract: A method for controlling the cranking of an engine of a vehicle powertrain system having a rechargeable energy storage system that is adapted to provide electric power to an electric machine, wherein the system is adapted to exit from the engine crank state as a function of an output voltage of the energy storage system to the electric machine during the crank state, if the output voltage is less than a crank undervoltage threshold for a predetermined crank time. According to the method, the crank undervoltage threshold is a function of the number of failed start attempts, generally decreasing as a function of the number of failed start attempts. The predetermined crank time is a function of a magnitude of a difference between the output voltage and the crank undervoltage threshold.

  • Patent number: 7275527
Abstract: In a method for venting a crankcase of an internal combustion engine, in which, in a first operating range under part-load, the crankcase is vented via a first venting line, which opens into an intake line of the internal combustion engine downstream of a throttle valve, and in a second operating range under full load engine operation, the crankcase is vented via a second venting line, which opens into the intake line upstream of the throttle valve, the first venting line includes a control valve and a central unit is provided which operates the control valve so as to control the flow of vent gases through the first venting line over a range including a complete flow interruption under engine overrun condition to prevent venting gases from reaching the engine exhaust system when the internal combustion engine is operating in an overrun mode.

  • Patent number: 7276880
Abstract: The invention relates to devices and/or methods for determining the availability of electrical energy in two-energy accumulator vehicle electric systems, in which both energy accumulators, particularly batteries, can be connected to one another via a D.C. converter. The required electric energy is generated by means of a generator that is driven by a vehicle engine. The customary consumers are connected to a first consumer battery circuit (10, 24). Additional consumer, for example, high-current consumers, particularly the starter, are connected to the second battery circuit (11, 29). A control device, for example, a controller that is equipped with a microprocessor determines the availability of the electric energy and occurring faults while evaluating.

  • Publication number: 20070224363
Abstract: A process and a device for prediction of the thickness of a layer of a coating or paint applied upon an object by dip painting. The paint layer thickness (h) at at least one point on the surface of the object (2) is predicted. A correlation between the paint layer thickness and the current density in the paint layer (3) is empirically determined. Further, a correlation between the specific resistance of the paint layer (3) and the current density in the paint layer (3) is empirically determined. Depending upon the value of the applied voltage, the electrical potential at the point is calculated. The current density, the paint layer thickness and the specific resistance of the paint layer (3) at the point following dip coating are calculated. For this the electrical potential at the point as well as two correlations are employed.
