Abstract: An apparatus to survey subsurface formations includes a sonde which is configured to move through a borehole. The sonde includes a neutron generator that emits neutrons into the subsurface formations. A crystal detector connected to the sonde monitors the neutron output of the neutron generator. The crystal detector can comprise an yttrium silicate crystal, an yttrium aluminate crystal, a lanthanum phosphate crystal, or a lutetium phosphate crystal. A lanthanum phosphate crystal or a lutetium phosphate crystal can also be used to detect photons coming from the subsurface formations. The sonde pressure casing can be fabricated from borated stainless steel to shield the internals of the sonde from thermal neutrons.

Abstract: The invention is directed to an induction coil which includes a flat spirally wound portion and a tubular spirally wound portion extending from the outer edge of the flat portion. The axis of the tubular portion is substantially perpendicular to the flat portion. The coil is useful in a plasma production apparatus which includes a chamber having walls and adapted to be evacuated. A window extends into the chamber from one of the walls. The coil is in the window with the flat portion being at the bottom of the window.
Abstract: A coupling prism assembly between a light valve and a projection lens includes a right angle prism and a wedge prism. The right angle prism has two sides of substantially the same length and a hypotenuse side. The wedge prism has a side which is adjacent the hypotenuse side of the right angle prism. The light valve is adjacent one of the two sides of the right angle prism and the projection lens is adjacent the other of the two sides of the right angle prism. Light enters the coupling prism assembly through a second side of the wedge prism, passes in substantially a straight line through the wedge prism and right angle prism to the light valve where the light is modulated. The modulated light passes back into the right angle prism and is reflected by the hypotenuse side into the projection lens. In a color projection system, the light is split into three color components. A separate light valve is provided to modulate each color component which is directed to a projection lens.
Abstract: An endotracheal tape for adhesively securing an endotracheal tube in position is disclosed. The tape consists of a single piece of 1 inch wide tape having first and second opposite ends split into two identical sections. A single short, non-stick piece is centered along the length of the tape and the tape is rolled onto two plastic tubes from each of the first and second ends. To dispense the device, the tape is unrolled slightly from the tubes to expose the short non-stick piece and the piece is placed against the back of the patient's neck. The tape is then completely unrolled and the upper halves of the split ends are affixed above the patient's nose or mouth and the lower halves of the split ends are wrapped around an endotracheal tube.
Abstract: A golf training device for a golf player including a hip belt having opposite belt ends, belt closing elements on the belt for holding the belt ends in joined position on the player, an elastic cord having an upper end and a lower end, an elastic cord attachment point on the belt disposed substantially opposite the joined position, and a stirrup attached to the lower end of the elastic cord for receiving a foot of the golf player. The length of the elastic cord is such that the stretched cord extends from the stirrup receiving the player's foot laterally and upwardly over the front and to the rear of the player to its attachment point on the belt thereby creating a rotational torque at the hips of the player which assists the player in maintaining a proper body stance throughout the swing with a club and properly turning the hips as required for a proper swing.
Abstract: An optical device having a substrate with a waveguide layer on a surface thereof and a grating in the waveguide. The grating has a period such as to deflect light passing along the waveguide out of the optical device. The angle at which the light is emitted from the waveguide can be varied by varying the index of refraction of the material of the waveguide under the grating. This can be achieved by applying a voltage across the waveguide.
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed forming an optical fiber communication signal distribution system which is uniquely designed to cooperate with the interior or edges of a typical modular office panel or an extension thereto. It can conveniently be considered to have three key interacting and cooperating elements; a removable channel, a complementary raceway, and optical fiber signal distribution means incorporated into the channel. The system typically provides fiber optic communication signals to a variety of computers and communication devices such as telephones and facsimile machines. The system is flexible and can be used to serve any number of work stations within the modular cluster. It also provides for routing and passage of electrical power lines as well as the optical communications fibers.
Abstract: An active matrix electroluminescent display (AMELD) having an improved light emitting efficiency and methods of operating the AMELD to produce gray scale operation comprises a plurality of pixels, each pixel including a first transistor having its gate connected to a select line, its source connected to a data line and its drain connected to the gate of a second transistor, the second transistor having its source connected to the data line and its drain connected to a first electrode of an electroluminescent (EL) cell. The EL cell's second electrode is connected to alternating high voltage means. A method for producing gray scale performance including the step of varying the length of time the second transistor is on while the alternating voltage is applied to the EL cell is also disclosed.
Abstract: A brush rose variety having highly scented flowers, mixture of yellow and apricot in flowers, dwarfer habit than the variety Graham Thomas, and very quartered, regular flowers.
