    Abstract: An endless power transmission belt construction, cord therefor and methods of making the same are provided, the cord having the yarns and the plies thereof respectively twisted on a 2 for 1 twister so as to cause the longitudinal axes of the fiber filaments to be disposed generally in the longitudinal direction of the cord with the denier of the fiber filaments of each yarn being approximately 1500. The twist multiplier of three plies is 3.7687 as the plies are twisted together at a rate of approximately 2.9 turns per linear inch of the cord, and the twist multiplier for the two yarns is 3.6765 as the two yarns for each ply are twisted together at a rate of approximately 4.9 turns per linear inch of that ply. The twist multiplier for five plies is 3.6986 as the plies are twisted together at a rate of approximately 1.8 turns per linear inch of the cord, and the twist multiplier for three yarns is 3.5838 as the three yarns for each ply are twisted together at a rate of approximately 3.

    Abstract: A tensioner for a power transmission belt and a method of making same are provided. The tensioner includes an arm that carries a belt engaging unit and is adapted to be pivotably mounted to a support unit. A mechanical first spring is operatively associated with the support unit and the arm for urging the arm, and hence the belt engaging unit, relative to the support unit and against the belt for tensioning same. A fluidic dampener is operatively associated with the support unit and the arm to dampen movement of the arm relative to the support unit. The dampener comprises a first plate fixed to the support unit, a second plate fixed to the arm for rotation therewith and relative to the first plate, a second spring urging the first and second plates against one another, friction material disposed between part of the facing surfaces of the first and second plates, and fluid disposed between the facing surfaces of the first and second plates.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing an hydraulic hose having ends of different internal diameters. An uncured hose is produced by conventional extrusion. The uncured hose is placed upon a mandrel having a reduced diameter end. That end of the uncured hose proximate the reduced diameter of the mandrel is covered by a heat responsive shrink tube. The shrink tube is heated to mold the end of the hose about the mandrel. Thereafter, the hose is vulcanized.

    Abstract: A toothed belt construction formed mainly of thermoplastic material and method of making the same are provided, the method including the steps of disposing at least one layer of the thermoplastic material about the outer peripheral surface of a building drum that has the outer peripheral surface thereof defined by alternating teeth and grooves, and then forcing the one layer of thermoplastic material toward the drum while the temperature of the one layer of thermoplastic material is above its softening temperature and below its melting temperature so as to cause at least part of the one layer of thermoplastic material to exude into the grooves to form at least part of the plurality of teeth of the belt construction.

    Abstract: A method for improving the adhesion of alkylated chlorosulfonated polyethylene (ACSM) and chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSM) rubber compounds to a resorcinol-formaldehyde latex (RFL) treated polyester reinforcing element using lower than conventional heat set temperatures comprising dipping the element into a RFL dip comprising chlorosulfonated polyethylene; drying the element; heat setting the element at a temperature in the range from about 300.degree. F. to about 425.degree. F. under tension; incorporating the element into the rubber compounds; and curing the element and the rubber compounds. Further, adding an amine functional polyacrylate to the RFL dip prevents failure of the adhesion of the cord at start up temperatures of about -40.degree. F.
