  • Patent number: 9945346
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling an ignition system which includes a spark plug control unit adapted to control at least one coil stage, the at least one coil stage adapted to successively energize and de-energize to provide a current to a spark plug, each coil stage includes a primary winding inductively coupled to a secondary winding. The method includes measuring low side voltages at one or more of each coil stage and controlling a duty cycle or a pulse width of a PWM-signal of a step-down converter stage dependent on a battery voltage, a maximum primary current threshold, and the measured voltages.

  • Patent number: 9863357
Abstract: A method of controlling fuel injection in an internal combustion engine is presented. For each injector event a drive signal is applied to the fuel injector, wherein said drive signal has a pulse width, which is calculated on the basis of a master performance function and of a minimum delivery pulse corresponding to the minimum pulse width required for the injector to open. The minimum delivery pulse is determined from the voltage across the terminals of the fuel injector's electromagnetic actuator, by comparing the duration of a segment of the voltage second derivative to a predetermined threshold value.

  • Patent number: 9617939
Abstract: A method is provided for determining the velocity of a pintle assembly in a solenoid fuel injector during a closing stroke of the pintle assembly, such that a braking step is performed during the closing stroke, which includes operating an injector driver with a current regulator to establish a braking current in the solenoid coil. The velocity of the pintle assembly is derived from the duty-cycle of the current regulator during the braking step. A method of operating a solenoid fuel injector, in particular for gaseous fuel, using the so-determined pintle velocity is also provided.

  • Patent number: 9399979
Abstract: An ignition system for an internal combustion engine includes an ignition transformer with two primary windings. The ignition system is designed to generate, for a given ignition event, a unipolar current through the secondary winding by way of a control circuit that is configured to first energize and deenergize the first primary winding to establish a first electrical arc across the spark-plug electrodes and, when the current in the secondary winding reaches, or drops below, a current threshold, repeatedly energizes and deenergizes the second primary winding to establish a plurality of second current pulses across the electrodes in order to maintain the burn phase.

  • Publication number: 20150068494
Abstract: A method of controlling fuel injection in an internal combustion engine is presented. A drive signal is generated for each injection event, with which the injector is kept open to spray fuel in accordance with a requested fuel quantity. The drive signal has a duration based on a pulse width that is determined from an injector-specific correspondence function defining the pulse width vs. a corresponding open time variable representative of injector open time. The open time variable is determined on the basis of a master performance function defining the requested fuel quantity in function of the open time variable.

  • Publication number: 20140007835
Abstract: A throttle valve assembly includes a valve housing having a main channel and an auxiliary channel. A main throttle valve is pivotally mounted in the main channel, and an auxiliary throttle valve pivotally is mounted in the auxiliary channel. A common rotating actuator controls the opening angle of both the main throttle valve and the auxiliary throttle valve through an actuating mechanism. The actuating mechanism includes a crank mechanism connected between an auxiliary pivoting shaft and a gear train driven by the rotating actuator.
