  • Patent number: 6766230
Abstract: A model-based Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) system and method based on a hierarchical structure for monitoring overall vehicle system performance and diagnosing faults is disclosed. The FDI scheme uses the available sensors in a vehicle system and divides them into subsystems of smaller dimensions containing one or more modules that are related or interconnected. The same module may appear in a different subsystem, but the set of all subsystems does not have to contain all of the modules. For this structure, an FDI scheme comprising several detector units is created. Each detector unit receives information from the sensors and outputs a residual that is sent to a residual evaluation unit which processes the data and performs the residual evaluation for the selected subsystem. Finally, each subsystem outputs a decision that is sent to a supervisor unit performing the final diagnosis.

  • Patent number: 6729427
Abstract: A locking state detecting apparatus of a buckle includes a hall sensor, a switching element, and resistors. Operation of the hall sensor is based on the locking state of the buckle. The operating state of the hall sensor affects the operating state of the switching element, which in turn affects voltage values that fall across the resistors. An electronic control unit senses the voltage values across the resistors to determine the operating state of the hall sensor and detects the locking state of the buckle.

  • Patent number: 6710438
Abstract: A chip scale package assembly comprises an integrated circuit die wire bonded to a carrier for mounting to a printed circuit board. The carrier comprises top and bottom ground planes thermally and electrically bonded together by a number of grounded thermal vias. The top ground plane completely surrounds the wire bond signal connections made with the die, enhancing signal integrity. The top ground plane covers the die mounting area, providing grounding and heat spreading for the die. The thermal vias are also positioned in the mounting area, and thermally couple the die to the bottom-side ground plane. The bottom ground plane is positioned within a central area around which the signal connections from the top-side are arranged. Ground pads with attached solder balls are positioned within the bottom ground plane and conduct heat transferred from the die into a primary circuit board on which the carrier is mounted.

  • Patent number: 6570486
Abstract: Access to a motor vehicle is controlled by periodically transmitting an interrogation signal from a control circuit on the vehicle. Upon receiving the interrogation signal, a hand-held remote control transmits a reply signal to the control circuit. The control circuit measures the strength of the reply signal and the activates a first function, such as unlocking a door of the vehicle, when the strength exceeds a first threshold level. Thereafter, when the signal strength exceeds a second threshold level, the control circuit activates a second function, for example enabling the engine to be started. When the signal strength drops below a third threshold activates a third function, such as locking the door.
