Patent number: 7119705Abstract: The capacitance of a shielded capacitive load cell is determined so as to minimize the effect of stray or parasitic capacitance between the load cell and other objects including the shield. The load cell conductors are coupled across input and output terminals of an operational amplifier that is tied to a reference voltage. A constant current is applied to the load cell, and the resulting rate of change in voltage at the amplifier output is measured as a representation of the load cell capacitance. In a vehicle seat sensor application including an electromagnetic interference shield between the load cell and the seating surface, the amplifier output is coupled to the load cell electrode furthest from the shield, the amplifier maintains the other load cell electrode at a virtual reference voltage, and the shield is tied to the reference voltage.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2004Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Gregory J. Patent number: 7118430Abstract: An electrical connector for use in forming a wire-wrapped welded terminal connection. The connector is formed by stamping and folding from a sheet of metal stock to include an integral sleeve element attached by a strap. During assembly of the connection prior to welding, the terminal is wrapped with wire as in the prior art and then the strap is folded to position the integral sleeve element correctly about the wrappings to form a weldable assembly functionally identical with the prior art sleeved assembly. Because the sleeve element is formed integrally with the connector and attached by a foldable strap, the element is automatically positioned correctly and is held in place by the strap during welding.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2005Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: James P. Patent number: 7105468Abstract: A catalyst for preferentially reducing carbon monoxide in a hydrogen stream. The catalyst is formed from a chemical composition including a hexaaluminate, a metal hydroxide and a precious metal. The composition may be disposed on a support or may be extruded or cast into or onto a support. Incorporation of hexaaluminates allows inclusion of metal hydroxides that flux the active precious metal surface at higher temperatures than can aluminum oxide-based catalytic compositions, thereby enhancing resistance of the catalyst and monolithic support and increasing the durability and thermal range of the PROX catalyst. An additional advantage is that lesser amounts of precious metal oxides need be deposited onto the hexaaluminate, while retaining activity similar to aluminum oxide compositions.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2002Date of Patent: September 12, 2006Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: William J. Patent number: 7107136Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining likelihood of rollover of a vehicle and/or mitigating rollover of the vehicle is responsive to measured vehicle lateral acceleration and a measured one of vehicle roll rate and vehicle suspension displacements to derive estimates of roll angle and roll rate. First, preliminary, estimates of roll angle and roll rate are derived and used as pseudo-measurements in a dynamic, closed loop observer equation which represents a model of the vehicle in a first roll mode for roll angles small compared to a reference value indicating two wheel lift-off and a second roll mode for roll angles at least near a reference value indicating two wheel lift-off. The observer equation has parameters and gains with values for each mode stored as a function of roll angle index derived from measurements and pseudo-measured values. The observer equation produces second, improved values or roll angle and roll rate together indicating the likelihood of vehicle rollover.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2002Date of Patent: September 12, 2006Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David John Barta, Aleksander Boguslaw Hac
